Personally I think it is really difficult to have a BYOR and not charge double to triple what they did.

Not sure I see what you mean on the Yates thread.  Never saw Italian Barber or RR let you choose your finish, handle length, metals, laser engraving, etc.  

You can choose a base plate and handle from RR.

I see what you're saying. That level of customization/complication likely appeals mostly to the most ardent of wet shavers that are already a small portion of a specialty market.
