So I'm clear on this when comparing any WR2 from a 1.35 SB gap on up to the 1.55SB is the SS as smooth as the non polished Titanium? Or are we comparing a high polished SS vs a brushed Ti? Or is it basic finish SS vs brushed Ti?

I've shaved with a OC 1.25 polished SS vs a polished Ti 1.25 OC and the difference face feel wise for me was significant with the Ti being the smoother of the two.
So do things change with the SB again moving up beyond a 1.35 in SB SS vs Ti?

I'm trying to get a handle on this in case I get a chance to catch a drop so maybe some members who have shaved with both or all of the above can give me some input on this subject.

Thanks

Y'know, reading LOOT's post I see he 'rides the guard' and uses pressure. So comparing techniques, I don't ride the guard, or use pressure. I've shaved with the Paradigm 1 Ti DE, and the Timeless .95 Ti. Neither was polished. I've shaved with Wolfman .74, .86 polished, a DC and a OC, and a 1.15 OC, 1.25 SB DC satin polished. I don't notice more or less glide in any of them one to another. Maybe it is just me, or could it be a matter of technique ?

Jimmy...for the fun of it, run those two heads across your lips, sans blade of course. Can you tell a difference? Try all of your materials and let me know.

Haven't been keeping up with the thread for a little bit and I'm sure this has been beat to death over and over but I'm curious none the less. Scored a ti 1.15 sb and went with brushed. Not sure I'll be able to tell but can anyone notice which is smoother between the mirror polished ss and brushed ti? Both are 1.15.

Living on the edge
Im not sure how any differences can amount to much....when I'm using one of his razors the only part that makes any real contact
with my skin is the slope of the guard and the edge of the blade

I’ll first state that I do have a bias in wanting to believe there’s no difference in perceived smoothness between polished and brushed but luckily I’m also just not that perceptive, haha.

I don’t have identical polished and brushed razors to compare but the subtle differences that may be present when sliding a razor along my dry face are no longer perceptible when lathered.

Don’t get me wrong though, I absolutely believe some of you can feel the differences in metals and finishes just as you can discern very subtle scent notes in fragrances.

In some cases, ignorance can certainly be bliss!

Well ... that was an interesting test LOOT, and I invite others to give it a try. I sold my Paradigm so the only Ti razor I have is the Timeless with the scalloped top. I tried Charcoal Goods brass, Wolfman polished and satin polished, and a couple of other stainless, Ikon and ATT.

The polished was definitely smoother across the lip than the others, with the satin polished so close I'm not sure there is a appreciable difference. The Ti had more drag, and so did the brass CG, but they both have grooved top caps, so that might account for some of it.

Of course this is dry skin and razor so ... dunno. With a good cream and a wet razor and face it is a different ball game, but the polished definitely won the contest on my lip.

Interesting. I have brushed Ti, polished Ti, mirror SS... I can tell a difference in the two polished razors on dry skin/lips, not in use tho. In use, I can definitely tell brushed from polished. Is it huge? No...but it's there, on my face.

The best example, is a machined/black oxide Blackbird and the polished SS. That is a much more pronounced change in feel, to me.

I can also tell the difference in glide in plated razors, specifically vintage Gillettes. White Rhodium is slicker than Nicole.

Not trying to convince you one way or another, brother Jimmy. We are all different....and it's all terribly subjective....from blades, to soap bases, to material finishes, beard prep, face wash...they all play a part....and we all perceive each of those variables differently. My combos and methods are only standard to me.

It's just like the WR1 head getting smoother as the gap increases...the change is slight. So slight most guys may not notice, especially without having 4 consecutive gaps to play with. But, to me, it certainly happens.

Of course, I could be full of crap. That's the most logical answer.

Yes Loot, it is different strokes for different folks  Smile For example, IIRC you prefer SB and you don't like OC. I like both, and have 3 DCs because of that. If I had my druthers they'd all be DCs. I've also got fairly sensitive skin, in that I cannot shave 3 passes without irritation no matter what I use. So it is like DE blades, what works for one guy may or may not work for another.

First time trying a titanium wolfman! The hype is real. 1.1 gap and wow I'm blown away. Incredible smooth razor especially ATG. Thank you James for the amazing work you do. These razors are not easy to obtain but definitely worth it! Good luck on your wolfman hunts!
