When I compare WR2 to WR1 my take is with the WR2 it follows the traditional path of as the gap goes up so does the efficiency and blade feel. In SS I also find there is a more significant difference in face feel between the SB side and OC side with the OC side being not only more efficient but also not as smooth. Everything changes when you switch to Titanium WR2 head. Example when comparing a WR2 SS 1.25 DC to a Titanium DC 1.25 OC/1.35 SB the difference to me in blade and face feel is so different it’s almost like they are different razors. I love my Titanium WR2. It’s super efficient and very smooth. With that said I did not like the OC side of the SS 1.25 at all and if I were ever to buy a SS WR2 again which I probably won't it would absolutely be a SB.
Moving to the WR1 to me unlike the WR2 and most of the other modern and vintage razors in this hobby it goes completely against all the rules as I find as the blade gap goes up so does the smoothness and of course the efficiency. Example my 80 DC is not as smooth as my 86 DC which is not as smooth as my .94 custom gap DC which with the exception of the .61 DC is the smoothest and the most efficient WR1 I've ever shaved with and a complete pleasure to shave with. The 74. WR1 Titanium is also smooth and moderately efficient.
I have never shaved with any WR1 with a lower gap than a 61. So I can not offer any input on those razors.
I prefer the WR2 head in Titanium and I prefer the WR1 head in SS especially in the higher gaps.
Just my 2 cents on the subject.
