Unless something changed you can order an extra handle. I was told I can get an extra one a couple of months ago. You just need to ask Tara when you confirm your order.

Is the XL size the key factor to make it more usable?

For me it is. I have used the regular 7 with a WR2 head but found it lacking. The 7XL beefs up the handle giving it more grip and mass.

I agree with much of the above. I do wish the 7XL was offered with the same texturing that is on the neck of the handle down on the steps at the base. I asked a while back for just such a handle, but it was after James stopped taking custom handle requests. It would be the ideal WM handle for me!

I really enjoy my hollow WRH1. It lets me adjust the pressure without being overly heavy. The knurling is fantastic and never slips. What surprised me was how comfortable the width of the handle is. All around, it’s great and gives me a razor with knurling as my other razors don’t have such options.

I also found the WHR7 'stunning'. i always felt it is the most beautiful of all of them, with the possible exception of the Darwin.

From a practical standpoint the WRH1/WRH2 are great because of the knurling. Non slip.

The WRH3 is very cool, but the smooth section is slippery, as is the WRH7.

I have all of the above and the 7 was the last I scored. TBH I was disappointed to begin with.

I worked at it and finally 'learned' how to use the 7 without the smooth portion being a problem. My 2 cents.

This rocks.  Thanks, man, this is the discussion I was a hoping for.  The WRH1 looks like it is the most functional of the bunch, just was you said.  Any wisdom on how to best use the WRH7?  if you could pick only one, would you pick the WRH1 or WRH7?

If I could only have one it would be the WRH1 90mm. The 7 was good once I got used to it. I have a WRH1 100mm that I'd trade for a shorter WRH1 in a heartbeat. Different strokes for different folks. I also have a WRH7 long hollow, and like Max said, it's a great handle. Why the 90mm solid 7 took getting used to, and the long one didn't I don't know, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it. BTW, I also have a Darwin and it is great. Smooth, the the facets prevent it from slipping.

I like my WHR7 90 mm hollow.
I've got a hollow WRH1 that nice but kind of big in diameter for me, but I could probably get used to it it's a very nice grip.
The Darwin is a very unique handle to me which I don't use much on the WR1 razor but I really appreciate the style and weight of it.
Plenty of times I will use my Tibam titanium
Handle because of my weight preferences.
One thing I've noticed about the hollow handles is the appear to give more audible feedback, or maybe it's just a different pitch of sound.

Thanks, guys.  I feel like if I can indeed get two handles, hearing what I'm hearing, a 90mm hollow WHR1 and a hollow 98mm WHR7 would be my jam.  The former for the function, the latter for the art.

A hollow 7XL on the WR2 head is about as good as it gets, for me. I find the standard 7 just too small in diameter at the grip and it gets head heavy with a WR2 head.
