Uhhh...I suspect anyone that’s considering spending close to 1k on a razor is gonna know what it is and what they go for.

Someone even threw out the term “price gouging” which is absolutely comical for a number it reasons haha!

I saw the thread on ******.  those people complaining probably do not run a shaving forum where continual negative comments can really drag down a thread/forum.  if all people get is negative comments when they want to sell something, they're going to stop using the site and move on to somewhere else.

the real irony here is that even at $900 or whatever the asking price for the wolfman, it always sells...

But I don’t understand the ‘Wolfman Derangement Syndrome’ where people worry themselves (and others) to no end about what other people are asking with their razors. And the prices that I’ve seen don’t seem that high - in the straight razor world a NOS Iwasaki Western (folding) tamehagane can bring $3,000 - $3,500 depending on the model, and no one bats an eye at these prices, it’s just what they bring. Heck, even a nice Iwasaki tamehagane kamisori (non-folding) will bring a grand or more, and they’re fairly common - you can go out and buy one whenever. Master SR smiths make custom SR that are higher than what people are asking here for a Wolfman, same kind of operation, small artisan operation of the highest quality, and like the Wolfman, they hold value and used ones are not discounted much if at all.

Holding or increasing value is a good thing, not a bad thing, right? So why does someone care enough about what someone else wants for their razor to get banned?

Tip of the hat to the moderators, you’re doing a good job with a strange (to me) situation. I do not envy you your jobs.

thanks.  we tried for a very long time to strike a balance of allowing people to comment about pricing in bst threads but it started getting out of hand and it was basically dragging down the intent of the listing itself.  since there are no rules against someone asking whatever they want for an item they're selling (and there never will, as long as I run the site), the need to denigrate someone asking for X amount for whatever is a bit much.  and let's be honest: it's almost ALWAYS the wolfman threads that are problematic.

we have a fix for that coming soon though...

People are always very rude on that particular platform. Definitely my least favorite shaving platform.

indeed!

nope.  it'll automatically lock wolfman threads from being commented on in the bst section.  Smile

Probably a good idea, but much less entertaining - and now I should sell my popcorn stock Smile

I'll let you sell it first before we implement the code. Big Grin

yes. we have better things to do with our time than moderate wolfman bst threads because someone is upset that the seller and buyer mutually & voluntarily agreed to pay X amount for a wolfman razor.

I definitely wasn't. all wolfman threads in the bst, once we fully tweak the settings, will be automatically closed as soon as the thread is submitted. the only people who can reply to them are admins, mods & the original poster.

The only problem I see...what if you have a shady seller and there's no way to warn unsuspecting buyers?
I get the no price comments, but I'd appreciate someone not taking my money and not shipping.

There is no perfect system. I prefer blocking the Wolfman thread from comments. It is the buyer's responsibility to do due diligence when making a purchase.

Loot, that razor is stunning.  I read your post 17x hoping the gap would change.  Had that been my gap there would not have been any hesitation.  For ME a premium to NOT stand in line and enjoy that instrument immediately is a small price to pay for my happiness and immediate gratification.  Not everyone will share my view but FOR ME, time is something I can’t purchase.

I appreciate well respected members like yourself placing higher value items in the BST and I hope you continue to do so.  I travel abroad extensively and miss drops frequently. I wouldn’t have the fine wares I do have if it weren’t for members like yourself and a BST outlet that has more than pucks of used soap.

Integrity at DFS has always been first class and I appreciate the moderators here for the time they put forth.

I think a good compromise would be if the seller lists the retail price atleast so that the buyer is informed. I've seen that in other WTS posts. I believe integrity ties into clear communication. Especially when it comes to an item that has a premium asking price.

I disagree. The buyer can easily find the retail price on the web. The seller is selling for X price, prospective buyers can either accept the price, negotiate, or walk. We are big boys here.
