It's kind of like when they discontinued the Ford Escort.
Didn't they just rename it the Ford Focus?

Williams is no big loss, it's like shaving with a bar of Ivory only that Ivory is easier to lather.

Williams is one of those soaps where you have to "load it like you hate it." Not the best soap, but I've definitely used worse

I tried Williams for the first time last week. Also didn't have the best results but for $2 it's hard to knock the soap. Gets the job done. I'm sure with practice I'd get better results. I think we're all just a little spoiled with artisans making such great soaps. Now a days you can pick up a soap you've never used or haven't lathered in a month and have no issues. In Williams' hay day I'm sure it's users used it exclusively so were able to perfect the lather and make that into a habit of their routine.

Williams, you will not be missed.

This was one of those products that endured despite being a below average soap....not surprised they are throwing in the towel with so many excellent soap.  The era of mass distribution over quality is over ( except for smartphones and fast food, that continues...).

was at winco today and saw they had some. like $.60 an oz. its a bit airy. but not terrible lather. I'm going to try shaving with it tomorrow. I don't think I'll use it in my rotation, but for situations where I can't get my other soaps or for a super super cheap soap, that lather seems ok. Though I'd use arko over it for a little more in price. The smell is good though. anyways was only $1.04. I hadn't seen it anywhere else and wanted to try it before it was gone. wasn't going to pay $3.30 from amazon for it though. interested and bit worried about how the shave will be tomorrow. probably a get what you pay for thing? also is it true wsp is trying to copy the scent?

Edit: well it the shave wasn't terrible, but more tugging it seemed. so I won't be using it again, but if it was between this and no soap at all, I'd take williams. so I agree no great loss, though I do like the scent so hopefully the rumors are true.

If you can ever find a vintage Williams Mug Soap puck, buy it!!! It is an amazing great shaving soap that gives a slick and great lather. Revised soap that you can buy now (I have 6) is nothing like the vintage puck. I agree with what you said about the new version that is hard to keep lathered but the old vintage version is a great soap. I use it with my straight razors and DE/SE razors and love it. My opinion and YMMV. Bring back the old recipe please and keep the company running.... Smile

I've used it for decades had had good luck with it. While I agree is was not the best hard soap out there, it was very usable, and always had a place on my countertop to help out real underperformers, or to use neat.

There are many better soaps out there, so I agree it's not a terribly great loss to the community.

good riddance! first soap I tried about 10 years ago when I first messed with a brush and soap. the soap and brush quickly went into the trash after a few tries.
