Yeah, no one stops making something because they are making too much money off of it lol!

Sorry one of your favorites has been axed... you never know, they might do a second run one day.

For every person who loves a controversial scent, there's another who hates it so bad that they have to write the artisan and tell them how awful it is, or say "I've read so much about this scent, did I get a bad batch?" Sometimes, they get rude. More often than not, they want a refund. It would get old for anyone. It really does wear you down and I was honestly pretty surprised when I heard that Will had agreed to do another run of Roam.

I speak from experience on this topic. There's a reason I now have a disclaimer on the Texas on Fire shave soap page.

Agreed. I stick to the tried and true that have been around for a while. LE's never really floated my boat...YMMV and all that

I'm like Marcos and NaturalSynthetic , I like some stability in the line. Razorock made and makes some great products and early on set the bar for 'small soap' with products like the original XXX in the UFO tub and King Louis Lavender. But unfortunately whatever you liked was unlikely to be around very long. But we shouldn't be too hard on the artisans, 'mainstream' products come and go too. Currently AWOL are XPEC, I Coloniali Mango Oil, and AoS tallow, the latter is certainly gone for good. And let's not even get into AdP Colonia cream...

I only have a range of products from two artisans, Stirling and MdC. Every other artisan is onesies or twosies, I like white tub B&M Cheshire and Seville, LpL Rose de Pushkar is divine (I don't leave home without it), and I like Reef Point Admiralty. I've tried many artisan brands but most didn't stick. Several I have not tried, mostly because of comments on the scents, the real weak spot for many North American artisans IMO, who are also making some really, really, good soap bases.

Cheers, Steve

So let me ask a stupid, non condescending question because frankly I don’t get it.  Roam and Hallows have always sold fast.  Always.  Roam supposedly is dead forever.  Why kill a scent people love and will buy continuously?...

I am sure Will did this for a valid reason. A business has to concentrate on what pays the bills.

Secretary Ramsey put his foot into it yesterday . . . in the course of his remarks he said that California “needs water and better society.”  “So does h-ll,” yelled someone in the crowd.

Marketing has a lot to do with how different products are handled. Things, including entire brands, tend to go stale when they're part of the regular lineup because we wet shavers are always chasing the next great thing. I also think that the "polarizing" scents tend to wax and wane in sales compared to scents like Seville or Bay Rum which are part of the regular lineup. Obviously I'm just talking off the top of my head based on observation as I have no knowledge of sales performance. One observation I made was that back when Roam was part of Barrister and Mann's regular lineup, it sold so poorly that Will had to discount it to clear it out - I think it was 50% off. I bought a second set (kyovu) back then because I assumed it was gone forever. When people started clamouring for Roam to come back I was surprised because I didn't think it was a "mainstream" fragrance and I suspected that many of those wanting to bring it back had never smelled it but were going from what they'd heard or imagined a B&M soap must smell like. Sure, there'll always be people that like it, I like it- but there will be just as many people that don't. Any soap from a popular artisan that has to be discounted and discontinued when first released was discounted/discontinued for a reason. Its not as widely popular as other products in the artisan's range and doesn't economically justify its continued production. A lot of people don't like it. Go ahead and take the gamble if you think you might like it, its not a lot of money really but if you don't like it don't go looking for a refund or start posting flame posts about the artisan, just chalk it up to experience and move on. Sell the soap if you like. And I PIFd my second Roam set to a friend before it was re-released. I did get a tub in glissant, howeverSmile

If Margaritas in the Arctic were to become an unobtanium I think thats the only soap that I would run out and buy a lifetime supply of. Out of my 140+ soaps that was one of the first and remains my favorite. I'm pretty sure thats the soap I got SAD from. That and Ozark, great stuff.

Good Points offered here. I am surprised that people would contact a maker and complain of scent let alone get upset about it, but apparently that's athing!!!

The scent profiles are fairly straight forward when you order a soap and frankly, I can think of only two soaps I have ever ordered out of a couple 100 soaps and thought "my god this is awful". Perhaps it is unsurprising that the makers of the aforementioned scents/soaps are no longer in business.

At least I am stocked up on Roam now.... Should have enough soap and splash to get by a few years before I run out.... Smile

I think as hobbyists we get caught up in the game and get confused between luxuries and necessities.
