Why do people in the millions line up around the block for the newest iPhone? It is a big part of American culture with anything now IMO. That new iPhone really won't do anything much different than the last one, but people buy it anyway. I have high end and flat out low end DEs/SEs. I think for me in this journey of wet shaving it has always been about trying different products. I didn't expect my NEW LC to shave as well as it does, but MAN I'm glad I bought it. It doesn't make me regret my ATT purchase though. It just gives me a different experience. People should be free to spend their hard earned money as they see fit. If that means chasing every new razor that comes out go for it. You'll probably waste a lot of money doing so, but to each his own, who am I to say what one can/cannot do with their own money or what makes them happy.

So **** off and give me a link to a decent aristocrat. Smile

I'm not a razor collector myself but I have acquired a few during my search for the best razor for my skin and beard. My first razor was an EJ DE89 which I still have and use occasionally. I had no issue with the EJ but became curious how other razors would compare, especially those that cost more. What I learned is that the EJ for me shaves just as well as any other I've used and better than most. However, I wanted to own a stainless steel razor that I wouldn't have to worry about damaging. I'm very careful with my razors but did drop my EJ in the sink one time and chipped the end of the top cap. Prior to buying a stainless razor head I bought a few aluminum ones. I had a Standard Razor that I used for 2 weeks and sold due to how rough it was on my neck even after trying various blades and practicing my technique. Then I bought an iKon 101 that I thought was the perfect razor except I don't like the open comb side which defeats the purpose of a DE razor. It's really a shame iKon doesn't offer a model with the safety bar of the 101 on both sides. Still, I figured I would give iKon another chance and bought the 102 Slant but it was also harsh on my neck like the Standard Razor. I sold all of those except the 101 which hasn't sold but I posted twice and I'm keeping my EJ DE89. I also had bought a Muhle R41 last year which is very efficient but also very aggressive but with the proper blade and a light touch it's a nice razor for multiple days growth. Finally I bought what turned out to be the perfect razor for me, the Feather AS-D2. Due to the price of stainless steel razors I held out a long time before buying this one, stuck deciding between the ATT and AS-D2. I went with the AS-D2 due to how forgiving it is while also being efficient with the right blades. So there you have it. My favorite razor is the AS-D2 but I find the EJ DE89 provides just as good of a shave so it's a keeper too. My preference for the AS-D2 though is due to the how forgiving it is and the perfect balance of the razor with handle, and the overall feel in my hand and on my face.

Interesting info as I move forward to buying my first safety razor. Now I have some names to checkout! For a long time I was happy with a puck from a local maker near to me, but recently have really enjoyed the BadgerBalm shave soap & I believe it is better or me. I think it will be necessary given my inexperience to try a few razors & with different blades too....

Why Willie Sutton robbed banks? That's were the money is!

Why I buy more? Because I can :-)

That was simple.....

Good question. No easy answer either! A few years ago my badger collection was over 50+, mostly Simpsons, Plissons, Rooneys etc. My vintage Gillette aristocrat collection was similarly out of control...heck at one point I had 7-8 toggles alone! About 2-3 years ago I downsized to a couple of razors, a #16, #58 and a feather and a single brush, a ch3. Didn't feel I needed anything else for those 2-3 years...then came back to the forums again a few months ago and things are once again out of control...though I'll admit on a much tamer scale Wink

I think a lot of people just try to keep up with the Joneses, and that's a mistake, the Joneses always win, lol....I personally don't care about impressing anybody, so telling people that I have a 450 bottles of whatever is not my thing.

I go for quality versus quantity, but I also went through the "have it all" phase, so I understand.

It's an addiction plain and simple. Fuelled by active participation in the forums. Nobody needs extra gear but it sure as hell makes shaving more fun. Variety is after all key to enjoying life Smile
