Why do they even exist then? That's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard of on a forum, warning level points....sheesh. Whatever happened to talking and working things out like real men?

I think it is really just a basic part of the forum theme that doesn't get used by anyone. I've seen these points elsewhere & they weren't utilized either.

SharpSpine Ah okay, gotcha. I guess I was under the impression that it was something the Mods/Admins created.

most forum software has some sort of warning system, mybb included (the software we use). the warning system is a way to warn a user about their behavior before they reach the point of getting banned and such.

mybb's warning system isn't all that flexible so we don't bother using it.

I must admit that I am new to this site but have been on others for a while. As a consumer and hobbyist I can only say that I will spend with and congregate with the places and people whom I feel the most comfortable with. I have always been an advocate of not bad mouthing anybody or place, you only provide an atmosphere where people will feel the most comfortable.

I can provide several thoughts that seem to support this theory such as "Build a Better Mousetrap", "Build it and they will come" and others.
What I look for in any site is a comfortable interaction with other members and the ability to talk with and not up to or down to any other member.

Mayberryman I'd agree with you, except that sort of free discussion is simply not allowed on certain other sites. Being able to discuss things freely here is nice, especially since some of us woke up to permanent bans on those other sites for no legitimate reason. Equal exchange was not allowed - what was required was compliance and voicing favorable/unfavorable opinions towards certain brands.

The fact that this discussion is allowed here is in itself the mousetrap.

I agree with this in it's entirety. I want to hang out at a place where I feel equally respected as I offer respect. I dislike unnecessary drama, and I despise "elitism". Unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of elitism on some of the other shaving forums, and that always minimizes my participation at those locations...

Yes, this place is definitely the "Better Mousetrap", as it were. It's very nice that the merchants, artissans, and customers can all interact with each other in a respectful manner, without feeling intimidated as a consumer, or feeling as though specific artisans and merchants are being disqualified without reason.

I've not been banned from a forum in many, many years, and it was not a shaving forum, at that. But I have definitely received wearnings in the last couple of months for having an opinion that was different than what it was supposed to be. To me, that's just not what these places are supposed to be about. The free exchange of ideas and opinions, should be just that, without intimidation and threats, and with a mutual respect and interest.

I agree with all but I think the point has been made. The continuation and repeated postings by a few of the more vocal might have the unexpected consequence of this fine forum being labeled as "Damn Whine Shave".

You might not miss them for very long. From the looks of things, it seems likely that they will be here sooner rather than later.

What you and the others have also noted is of particular importance. Besides the camaraderie, people go to the wetshaving forums for information. One would hope that the information is reasonably accurate. When the content is heavily biased due to censorship, especially if that censorship has ulterior motives, the "information" presented is much less accurate than it should be. I mention that because I have seen some people say they visit censored sites "only for the information". They would find better quality content in places with free and open discussion. Damn Fine Shave has a great vibe and steadily growing membership. That is so good to see!

Sir, from what I have experienced so far I agree with you about the better mousetrap. My only concern would be that positive reinforcement of this site would be far more beneficial than negative of another. In all reality I do not disagree with much of what has been posted in this thread but I wonder if what could be perceived as negativity could be used in other forums as a judging tool.

Well, all that being said, I think it is time to shave and take my wife out to Dinner for her 66th birthday. I might not even make her go through the drive through. Just kidding, like all men who have been married for over 40 years I know who is boss. (This March 24th it will be 45 to be exact).
