i am trying Wholly Kaw for the first time with their Hiatus in Creme Fraische base and don’t seem to be ached as protective a cushion as other soaps (GD Pura, A&E St. Bart’s).

I am using the same process as my other soaps and adjusting the water volume as needed.

I soak the puck with about a tablespoon’s worth of water for a few minutes while I shower, dump soap water into Timeless bowl, dunk my Razorock Bruce 24mm synthetic brush into my sink, squeeze out the excess water and then swirls the brush with some pressure on the puck for about 4 seconds before moving to the bowl and working up the lather until I get it to a micro bubble stage.

Prior to doing this I already applied and rubbed in GD Preshave.

I lather up my beard for a minute or so, adding more water a brush tip dip at a time from the sink to keep the dampness up and not dry out on my face.

i get more than enough lather for my two passes. So, I can’t imagine how much soap would be wasted if I loaded the brush for 30 seconds as per Wholly Kaw’s instructions. It seems I would be buying more soap more quickly and probably by design lol

Anyone else have any experience using this soap and base?

Also, I am not particularly enamored with the actual scent profile. Too pineapple forward and not the character of pineapple i prefer. It’s like not yet ripe, super tart pineapple. An unbalanced cocktail in my opinion. I will probably be offering this up for sale or trade.

Would not soak the puck

May be a water incompatibility issue. Try distilled to be sure

Actually favour the scent although it more tropical fru fru drink and not suntan lotion

Agreed. Blooming particular soft soaps is going to change loading dramatically.

I would expect that by blooming any soap makes the loading easier and faster. Hence, why after swirling for 4 seconds I wind up with enough lather in my bowl for probably 4-5 passes.

And, my water hardness is average and has proven to work satisfactorily with other brands of soaps ranging from MdC to Grooming Department's Pura, Mumtaz and others.

I just found it pecular that WK recommends loading for 30 seconds even if you don't bloom. Maybe I'll have to try it, but I suspect my bowl will just overflow with wasted soap =\

Don't go by time, just stop when the brush is loaded. There's nothing magical about 30 seconds. Pressure, water, etc will all change the result. Multivariable equation.

I see nothing wrong with going by time if it's a good reference point for you.

We can all be different about this and that's great.

When I started out I wrote the time, or swirls and the amount of water both down.
Next shave you can adjust from your recipe so to speak.
It's like a recipe after Grandma learn to make biscuits I'll bet she made them without the exactness of measuring.

Sometimes more soap more cushion. The rules are there no rules. Lol

Maybe use plenty of soap try it a couple of razor swipes and if you don't like it add a little bit more water and see how it feels.

Have never used Wholly Kaw but have used soaps like it. I stopped reading your post at "synthetic brush" (well actually I kept reading after that but I knew how this story was going to go).

Loading any soap like that with a synthetic brush is going to be a problem. You are probably not loading enough, and with a synthetic brush it is going to take forever. If you have a well broken in boar bristle brush try that using the same load time as with your synthetic. I bet you a dollar you will notice a world of difference.

Recently revisited Sierro with one of the Drug Rehab PIF brushes: it whipped up beautifully. Scooped an almond size dollop and pressed into a crystal bowl then wetted the random Synthetic brush. Was perfetly lathered within 3-4 minutes.

Just read the rest of the OP. Loading for 4 seconds is nowhere near enough. Try starting off at 20 seconds with a boar bristle brush.

Then load more if things are still not working. There are some hard pucks I have to load for close to 50 seconds to get a good lather for three full passes.
