If you enjoy a single malt Scotch whisky or a good old fashioned American rye whiskey or any other, what is a favorite?  I really enjoy Laphroaig 10 year old, an Islay  single malt Scotch and Old Overholt Rye.  My choice of rye is interesting because I have had smoother ryes but it is the slight rough feel of Old Overholt that appeals to me.

have you tried the ardbeg 10? if so, how do you rate it compared to the laphroaig 10? old overholt makes a fine old fashioned, too, if you've not tried it. and if you'd allow me to suggest, i LOVE an old fashioned made with pig nose blended scotch.

It has been a while since I tried the Ardbeg 10 but I did enjoy it, as I remember. I shall have to give it another go. As for old fashioneds, it has been decades since I had one of those.

I dont like the island malts - too peaty for me. Usually I look for a whisky from the Speyside distilleries as those are so smooth.

I tend to lean more towards Speyside and Highland scotches, but Scapa is my jam. I had a couple of 14yo back when they were $50. I got a 16yo for my birthday which my groomsmen and I popped open and finished right before my wedding ceremony.

Otherwise, it's a bottle of Four Roses (or one of their small batches or single barrels) and some ice.

they're my second/third favorite drink, behind a sazerac and sometimes i like manhattans more than old fashioneds, but they tend to duke it out for second place. my favorite old fashioned recipe:

edit: also, i'm a huge fan of lagavulin 16 or 12 (in that order) and bunnahabhain 18 - i've not tried the 12.

When having libations I usually reach for a high gravity Belgian brew, but my father recently brought me a bottle of single barrel bourbon that has quickly become my favorite. I present four roses single barrel:

I am thrilled the sazarec has made a comeback. Great drink, a true manly cocktail.

[Image: 8ce65bf7171d12e0c57d98d8bdf8cbb7.jpg] Normally I would drink Tullamore Dew or Jamison, but I decided to go with this today.

Laphroaig is my clear favourite. I absolutely love the stuff! I don't drink much at all, quite rarely in fact ... whisky even more rarely. When I do, it's Laphroaig.

Hey! Have you tried Meißner Tremonia's Strong & Scottish shaving soap/paste? You should Big Grin
