This weekend I will be shaving with these two straights: a) SSA Eskilstuna Sweden (17mm) Full Hollow and b) SSA Eskilstuna Sweden (15mm) Full Hollow. These razors are decedents of the John Engstrom Ran-tan-kar-us Red Devil (16mm) that I shaved with on Friday.
A little background on the SSA straight razor; the company is a direct offshoot of the Johan Engström Company. Johan Engström was one of the most successful Eskilstuna cutlers. Johan died in 1915, which marks the end of the Engström Company. His factory ceased all operations by 1917. In 1918, Fahle Hammar reorganized the firm and invested over 1,000,000 Swedish Crowns in new factory buildings and special machinery. Then the company was renamed the Swedish Steel Forging Co. (Svenska Stalsmides Aktieb or SSA), 1918-1920. SSA never used the Engström trademark; it was now a new company.
