CJB AC-style kamisori shavette with Feather ProGuard

Second round with this blade. The first shave with it was the most comfortable shavette shave I've ever experienced. The second round with this blade was not nearly as comfortable. It seemed to be quite tuggy and dull, which is odd considering the other AC blades I have tried so far were each good for 4 shaves, with multiple days between shaves, and then were tossed simply to try another blade, not due to dullness or discomfort.

Anyhow...setting up for last night's shave, recalling how nice the ProGuard blade was the night before, I was even beginning to think that if I could get a comfortable 4 shaves from that blade, I would make it a much more prevalent character in my rotation. Alas, it was not to be so. The excitement over the blade died almost as soon as the first stroke was completed...

Feather AC with Kai MG. Dirty Bird shaving bowl to lather, which is unusual for me, I'm usually a face lathering kind of guy.

Sorry if I posted this twice. [Image: QD55iDj.jpg]

2 shaves tonight. I did my head and my cheeks at 2 different times., to maximize my shaving real estate...

Head shave was a Case Red Imp 5/8 wedge. Man, this blade is just in fantastic shape at the moment. Such a smooth and clean shaver, and right now it is shaving better than ever. A real treat when it's in this condition.

Cut in my cheek lines using a freshly honed and new to me Joseph Rogers 5/8 French point wedge. I just got this in a trade a few days ago, along with a 6/8 wedge. I wasn't going to work on this one yet, because it was just barely starting to get a frown near the heel, but I threw caution to the wind and took it to the Japanese synthetics tonight. Surprisingly, it was very easy to clean up, remove the start of the frown, and get a clean bevel on her.

Finished on a surgical black Arkansas stone under running water for a great cheek shave. Tomorrow, I will try to remember to use this razor for my head shave and give it a proper test...

Feather AC with a Kai Captain (blue) blade. I enjoyed the Kai far more than its Feather equivalent. It was more forgiving and much smoother. I'm still undecided about the Feather Pro Guard vs. the Kai MG Protouch. I'm thinking they might stay neck and neck.

Joseph Rogers & Son 5/8 French point wedge

This blade took a surprisingly decent edge tonight. It had some wobbles in the bevel from awkward hone wear. Someone in the past was not as kind to this blade as they should have been, but with a little corrective work near the heel and toe, it is honing flat and even, now. I still have a small "dead spot" between the midpoint and the toe, which is only about 1/16" long, but it annoys me. Rather than allow it to frustrate me, I will let it come out with continued maintenance. It shaved very well and very cleanly, despite the dead spot, so I'm not gonna sweat the small stuff too much. It will eventually work itself out...
