Kiss My Face mint-scented shaving cream. Usually I lather it with a brush. Today I was rushed so I slathered it on by hand, added a little water, and had a damn fine shave. KMF is so good I don't usually feel the need for a balm afterwards. Yesterday I used the Art of Shaving Sandalwood shave cream. As far as performance, AOS is well behind KMF. KMF is six bucks a bottle. It never fails to impress me and to remind me that in wet shaving, there is usually little correlation between price and quality. There are exceptions. XPEC and ATT are two that come to mind. But you can get a great shave on the cheap.

Royal Fougère (Asylum Shave Works) rich fougère

This soap has a good rich scent without an overload of oak moss. The synthetic versions of moss set my teeth on edge, but this soap’s scent is velvety smooth, dark, and elegant. Reach for Barrister & Mann’s bright Fern when you’re spending a day at the races, but shave with Asylum’s Royal Fougère when you're planning a night at the opera.
