I wonder where Scott gets his supply of bison tallow. Is this a commonly traded commodity, available on the open market, like paper towels, motor oil, or toothpaste; or does he keep a private herd of bison bison americanus stashed away somewhere near Acworth, Ga., running them in the lush foothills of the North Georgia mountains, watering them with the cool waters of Lake Allatoona, perhaps grazing them on the fifty yard line of the football field behind a local high school? They’re not really the sort of beast you bump into commonly outside of the high wind-swept plains of the Dakotas, Montana, or Wyoming; so I was surprised to find their innards mixed into a tub of shave soap from Georgia. Now, after nearly a year of using these highly scented soaps, without a single complaint, I cannot honestly say that bison fat works much differently from cattle tallow. But I have to admit that it looks good on the label, giving this soap an All American vibe, in spite of its outlandish name and clear reliance on the art of the French perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena.
