Spañish Fern (Joserra) rich fougère
Shave 1

The good news: Spañish Fern may just be the finest fougère around. This soap has el duende. It’s passionate, primal, and satisfying on so many levels – a spine tingling top, a crazy blend of grassy middle notes, and a dark earthy base that goes all the way to China. The coolest thing is, when you're shaving, you’re not aware of the different parts. You feel wrapped in the embrace of an uncanny greenness that's dense, rich, and perfectly fit together. It will make you wish every day were Fern Friday.

The bad news: Today’s brush, the Zenith Kotibe boar, is the worst tool in my entire shaving arsenal. It absolutely destroys lather. I load it with a couple grams of my best soap, add my water slowly and carefully, work it all till my palm is red … and nothing. I’ve fed it enough soap to make five passes, but all it gives me is a spineless slurry. I get one pass out it and then have to reload. Miserable. Boar men, is this par for the course with these Zenith pig bristles?

And a side note: I like the crunchy sound the Shovelhead razor makes on the first pass.

Finally: HoosierShave, what did you think of the Lambda Athena? I believe it's my smoothest and most efficient razor (I'm using the February 2024 version, which is said to be milder than earlier editions). I hope you enjoyed your shave.

Pre ...... Shower
Brush .... Alpha Evergoose
Soap ..... Los Jabones de Joserra Black Rose
Razor .... Karve Overlander (Aluminum)
Blade .... Wizamet Iridium Super
Post ..... Humphrey's Witch Hazel Astringent (w/alcohol)
Post ..... Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Moisturizing Face Serum SPF 60+
Finish ... Dior Homme Intense EDP (2011)

A very good friend loaned me an assortment of Karve razors and handles, including the lovely black/green Overlander and stand in today's photo.  The aluminum model weighs in at only 33 grams, but it made easy meat out of several day's growth - very smooth and very efficient.  But not really surprising, given how loudly and sweetly the chorus of Overlander love has been singing.

The only cloud in today's sky:  The donut hole in my Black Rose is getting bigger. Sad

Wow. I'm surprised you never shaved with one. Heck, I thought you owned one.

Hard to beat that Overlander. It's a great tool. Chris (of Karve) will be waiting for your order. Lol.

Was shaving with Ethos Peppermint v1….mid morning shave…around 1020 today…such a great, powerful, refreshing scent that it literally shook the house.
