Cuir et épices (L&L Grooming) ★★★★ a new pair of boots and a can of cherry Skoal
Each summer the rodeo came to my little western town. For a week the grainy scent of well fed horses, the acrid smell of taunted bulls, the green and dusty funk of ewes with their lambs, the grassy smell of steer, all the odors and aromas of livestock penned together paired with the fragrant scents of pancakes and coffee served at dawn could not compete with the all-pervading scent of new leather boots on the feet of ten thousand buckaroos. The town was hip-deep in leather – leather boots, leather belts, leather wallets, leather purses, leather aprons on the blacksmith, leather gloves with leather tassles, leather saddles, wooly leather chaps, sleek leather spur straps, leather medicine bags, cracking leather whips. And every poke had a can of sweet chew tucked in his back pocket. Thanks, L&L, for taking me back four decades and setting me down again over the chutes.
The rich smell of this soap is outstripped only by its performance. L&L's bison soaps are one of our luckiest finds this year.
