Fougère (Martin de Candre) fine fougère
Shave 19 ・ 196 g left

Martin de Candre’s Fougère and the Merkur 42C team up again to give an ever so gentle, elegant shave. It’s nice to see these polar opposites working so well together. I mean, the Merkur is by any standard a cheap razor (I think I paid around $27), while Fougère has a reputation for being one of the most expensive soaps on the shelf. Shows to go that when it comes to shaving, quality can be found at all levels.

Bouki Master,
I wanted to respond thoughtfully to your queries, as well as add to the thoughtful responses of Nero & Hoosier.

I have had my unscented MdC puck 10 years. I went to my shave notebooks and posts, and it appears I have used it about 70 times. I don't have scales, but I barely have a depression in the top of the puck. It was filled to the brim when bought her , and now she is down from the rim about 1.5 mm. I used some scales, and based on my loading tendency, I have around 500-600 shaves left, for a total of 570 - 670 remaining in the jar ..... basically, a dime a shave. I load very heavily, one probably could get 1,000 shaves from a jar, i. e., 3 years of daily usage assuming a normal loading.

Bouki, Hoosier, & Nero are exactly right - easy quick lather or luxury pending tune and intent. And I have found the 'dry' post isn't dry skin, but tight feeling skin - not dry at all. This stuff is a value, quality performance, lasts per it being a hard puck, and the scents do not get in the way of post "fragantica."

Packaging is sweet, and I find myself using it weekly now. Between my brain bowl and my jars, my sons will be using it. Nero is set for shaving through this century!

Thanks, Tom! I can set with your figures. Like you say, with a moderate load each morning, you'll get around 1,000 shaves from a 200-gram jar of Martin de Candre. In terms of price per shave, that makes it one of the cheapest soaps in the stable. And you can be certain that all the lathers will be good and all the shaves will be sound. I favor a very mild razor with this soap since it's not as protective of my skin as say Barrister & Mann, Mike's or Ethos. But it's always great fun to use – and the smell of that Fougère is just magnificent.

Ethos Grooming - Nuage De Citron

Lemon clouds in Dallas this morning. I highly recommend Profumum Roma's Aqua Viva - a lemon EDP blast that actually lasts. It is a juicy scent and a perfect marriage with Frank's masterpiece. I think I am having a difficult time deciding which is my favorite Ethos scent. Third world problem right?
