Fougère (Martin de Candre) fine fougère
Shave 17 ・ 197 g left
Ah, Martin de Candre’s Fougère … one whiff and I'm ready to run to the park and dance the Rite of Spring. I’m a day late, TommyCarioca and HoosierShave, but I’ll follow suit.
Like you said, Tom, it’s hard to make a mistake when you lather this soap. Load heavy, load light, either way you end up with some gorgeous smelling, good performing shave cream. It’s not all that thick, but if you’re into one-pass shaving, it gives admirable results. Four drops of Frank’s skin care blend take care of the drying. And Tom, when you write, “In 10 years it will still be higher than the rim of the bowl, even with weekly use,” you’re spot on. So, just how long does this soap last? Well, according to my calculations, a 200-gram jar – gently tickled with ten swirls each morning – will yield about 1,130 shaves. If you use it once a week, that brain bowl should keep you in lather for the next twenty years, at least. You might want to start thinking about ordering a backup.
And HoosierShave, how are you doing with the soap? Now that you've been at it for a few weeks, have you discovered any hidden mysteries? And what does your spreadsheet tell you about its longevity?

Bouki, I wonder if I have enough backups?
8 Fougere
5 Rose
5 Vetyver
5 Agrumes
Plus, one of each in use, about a mm from the top of the jar. Though I tend to load it as long as other soaps... still doesn't go down.
Btw, using it this way endures I don't end up with dryness, in fact a little bit of a residual oil.

Bouki, from a community-wide perspective, I am sure I doubt I've made any discoveries that haven't been written about in the past. But the thing that has impressed me the most is the versatility of MdC. One of the things I have been experimenting with is the loading/lathering process. I have nearly 30 shaves in with the Fougere and have tried multiple methods of loading/lathering This soap simply works no matter what you do! I've found that on those days when I need to hurry the shave, a quick load and 2-minute face-lather session is possible. Or, like this morning, when I'm shaving multiple days growth and have the time to enjoy the process, I will put a little water on top of the puck, immediately dump the water off (i guess that qualifies for blooming????), load for 15-20 seconds, and then face-paint for 10 minutes. i will agree with the Nero though that the latter process tends to give me more slickness and cushion. But, again, when you're in a hurry, this is a great soap for a 1 or 2 pass shave.
BTW, I still find this to be a great scent!
