SO, what di you get him for his birthday?  You did get him something right?
Trust me, there's no better gift than playing with the frisbee! It's the only thing he likes more than food.

Murphy and McNeil Bay Rum

This artisan is from Flower Mound, Texas [suburb of Dallas, by/near DFW airport] - my current home [29 years]. So several years back when they introduced their line, I think I was first in line and bought 5 pux. Scents were fine - but I prefer harder soap, to facilitate lathering on the puck [I am not a bowl guy or scraper off the jar guy]. In fact, the consistency of the original soap was pretty much like oatmeal. I still have these pux - unused. I may pass them forward or try to negotiate a swap with M&M, as I have found a new M&M member of my rotation: their tallow based formulation - just superb. Slick, and hungry for water - a face latherer's delight. Shea, clay, beef tallow, 'silk' - makes for a super gliding face batter.

This Bay Rum has made my bay rum hall of fame with:

B&M, SH, MW, GD, Stirling, Long Rifle, and Mike's

Very nice well balanced bay, not heavy on the clove.

I have the PAA CK6 Bays to investigate to round out my rotation. Thinking I need Sunday to be my Bay Rum weekly shave. Boys, the Bay is an all year flavor!

C U all tomorrow

Thanks Tommy! I meant to comment on your post the other day, then ADD got me and I forgot. You used GD "Soap"...that's one of the few tubs I've finished since beginning this silly little hobby. I don't know if you smell it the same way, but it seems to me that "Melody" is "Soap" with a few extra scent notes added? They seem to be very, very similar. Not that it's a negative, just an observation.
Agreed man, great observation and it explains why I have them next to each other in my den and can't decide which to use

- They both have that grooming department DNA fo sho - melody imo has a floral/fruity vibe added. Love them both. Great summer Shavers. I think Mo is very creative - his stuff  evolves and I find myself chasing it : haven't been disappointed yet. But I am grateful there are stable no-change pux like Tabac, Sir Henry, ABC, SV and MdC.

Like you, I've yet to be disappointed as well - with any of the bases I've tried, or (luckily) any of the scents. There are a few bases I've haven't made it around to yet, such as Nai. As of now, I'm anxiously awaiting the Mallard drop on the 15th. I seldom can figure out his scents, and I mean that in a good way. They're masterfully blended and the scent notes mean very little as far as I'm concerned, because I typically can't pick any of the individual notes out.

I'm also grateful for artisans/companies that leave well enough alone. You always know what to expect from Stirling. Same with Tabac and MWF. I understand why some artisans keep coming up with new bases, and generally there is an improvement. But, there's something to be said for getting the base great and not fiddling with it.

By the way, I dig your photo today, and that Feather is sweet! Still haven't gotten around to M&M, but hear nothing but good.

It takes eyes better than mine to find any bubbles in this lather. Wholly Kaw has given us the definition of 'low-structure emulsion'. Chypre Rose Concerto goes on so thick and flat you could trade your brush in for a trowel. Give it some water and it gets slicker than papaya seeds. It will support a three-pass shave, even in the hot season. And the smell? Glory. It’s a concerto with rose playing solo, accompanied by a whole orchestra of other fascinating notes and textures. First time a soap made my cologne smell boring.

TommyCarioca, if I had read this post a few years ago I would have thought you were bonkers. Back then I thought bay rum was a joke. I only used it once a year – on Halloween. I bought Barrister & Mann's Bay Rum three times, and twice I gave it away. Then a couple summers ago, I too saw the light. Now it's bay rum nearly every day. If I stray away too long, I sink into a funk. I have to pull out a puck and take a snort to even out my keel. I had a great shave today with Chypre Rose Concerto, but I can't hardly wait til tomorrow when I'll dip my brush back into a tub of bay rumity goodness. (And that is a fantastic looking razor!)
