Vétyver 2017 v. (Martin de Candre) great vetiver

Hot and dry here, and that means we’re pulling into vetiver season. I go ape for this stuff. In fact, I even put five drops of vetiver oil into the water I used to wash our floors. The dry old boards sopped it up and now the whole shack reeks of grassy, woody goodness. I was worried that it would annoy my wife, but she took a deep sniff and said, “What did you do? This place smells like it’s brand new again!” New house smell. Never heard vetiver called that before.

Dry weather has moved in and the lawn is shriveling up. But that’s not all that’s shrinking. Overnight this puck of Mike’s Bay Rum lost six grams. Didn’t realize how much ambient humidity figures into the weight of an open-faced soap. To plump it up again, I gave it the Marco Method with a boar brush, and I didn’t hold back. I gave it a downright malicious loading. What I did has probably been banned by the Geneva convention. True, it made a sloppy mess with suds and bubbles all over the place; but once it got on my face and I gave it some determined agitation, the mess turned into a slippery yoghurt-like lather that led to one of the finest shaves I’ve had in recent memory. Looks like this grunter brush will stay in the game after all.

How did you like the scent? Can you compare it to anything or give a brief description? I'm really intrigued by MacDuff's description.
I think it’s pretty true to the description. First off I get raspberry, and then a honey sweetness with some light florals to the end. The vanilla in it is very subtle, but holds the fragrance together with a very mild warm quality. The ginger to me is hardly noticeable but peaks through a little to crisp it up with the raspberry. It’s really, really nice.

Thankfully, no. But I've only had sensitivities to a couple soaps and it wasn't nearly bad enough for me to never use the soap again. Unfortunately, I apparently have sensitivities to Bay Rum splashes and witch hazel which is a real bummer as I LOVE the bay rum scents.
