Tundra Artica v. (Saponificio Varesino) oud sandalwood
Tonight I’m burning a stick of Ranjatai incense. It’s made of Vietnamese aloeswood (aka oud) and herbs. It’s complex. I get weird fruity bits and wet wood and straw and many things I just can’t describe. I have to admire soap cookers who undertake the difficult task of making their soaps smell this good. Does Tundra Artica succeed? Well, yes, kind of, but mostly no. What I smell in the soap is a synthetic interpretation of what I smell in the incense smoke. They’re both nice, but it’s clear that one is no more than a snap shot of the other. But when it comes to shaving, I'll take the Saponificio Varesino every time.

Bouki I have used my fair share of Tundra Artica and I will happily use it with pleasure and put it up against all the other beta formulas. I think my skin likes it quite a bit, especially the matching aftershave. Nice to see someone else’s comments and interpretation of the scent. I do enjoy it’s smell but it isn’t as strong or as bold as some of the other SV scents.
I used Mystic Water Cedar and Sage shaving soap the last couple shaves this week. I may use it one last time this weekend. It has a nice soapy scent that comes through with some of the other essential oil scents included.
Cedar and Sage includes on the ingredients junipera viriniana cedarwood, salvia sciarea clary (sage) oil, fragrance, pogostemon cablin patchoulli, citrus bergamia bergamot oil, citrus aurantifolia lime, cinnamomum zeylanicum cinnamon leaf oil, myristica fragrans nutmeg oil
I have enjoyed a lot of Mystic Water scents over the years but there are a few that I really found the most pleasant among her selection. I think Michelle did great with Bergamot, Cedarwood and Juniper and Marrakesh. The soapy smell in the Sensitive Skin shave soap is nice too.

Lamentations for the once-great Crabtree and Evelyn. You were a fine purveyor of men’s shaving accoutrements but then allowed accountants (no offense intended to the accountants who are reading) to drive the bus until you no longer bested Taylor of Old Bond Street, DR Harris, or Trufitt and Hill. You traded your Crown and Throne for a Blue-Light-Special at the KMart. You willingly left your premium position to dine with Zest and Dove and Irish Spring and frankly can’t haul water as well as they. Once premium ingredients were exchanged for pedestrian stuff and this stuff smells artificial and after thought-ish. I’ve tried to cut you some slack. I rooted for you to grow on me. I’ve tried to make believe your slickness makes up for no cushion and a Saharan post. Alas, I surrender. You have been weighed. You have been measured. You have been found wanting. You will now be used in a shower sponge to wash my hinterland. Adieu.
