What soap/cream did you use today?

Ha, agreed on the soap hardness (and, from memory, difficulty in lathering...for a soap that doesn't have "lathering problems")
But the soap itself is quite inexpensive.

Folgefonn v. (Fitjar Island) menthol, eucalyptus, wood ... varnish

As you can see, Folgefonn comes in a handsome wooden bowl. That’s not your only choice. You can order it in an elegant plastic tub, or you can ask for a paper-wrapped refill and plop that into any container you choose. But I decided to go whole hog, and I got the rosewood bowl. Deeply grained, smooth, and still quite light, it’s truly gorgeous. But when the wood gets wet, it bleeds into the soap, staining the creamy white surface a rusty brown. It even started to taint my sink and towels. Fitjar Islands must be aware of the potential for this. They include some vegetable oil to apply to the rosewood. Unfortunately, it doesn’t solve the problem for long. Something more durable is needed. I decided to give the bowl a light sanding and then apply several coats of varnish. After drying and curing for three weeks, the rosewood no longer bleeds. But now I’ve got another problem: the soap smells like spar varnish. I hope this scent will wear off after the resin hardens thoroughly. In the meantime I’m trying to convince myself that the bowl smells like a wooden ship bound for the South Pole, and that Folgefonn could have graced Amundsen’s cabin on the Fram.

Wanted to see how this new synthetic from Teton Shaves works so I chose the Stirling soap base in Dunshire scent.  It's an Acqua di Geo dupe and does pretty well.  The soap is classic Stirling.  Dependable like a best friend.  Oh, and the knot billed as a Silvertip synthetic actually has backbone like a two band and holds a ton of water.  Not going to unseat my love of natural fibers but as synthetics go, this one is a doozie.
