Wool Fat (Mitchell's) smells like soap
This is the sort of scent that will never clobber your aftershave. The list of ingredients hints at violet, cinnamon, and citrus. You may be able to pick out those notes on the puck, but it's very mild. The overall impression I get is that I'm sniffing a bar of Dial that's been in the shower for a couple weeks. There's nothing exciting here, but by the same token there's nothing offensive, and I could happily use Mitchell's every day without growing tired of its clean, soapy scent.
The real pleasure, though, in using this soap is the way it leaves your skin feeling remarkably smooth after your shave. Lanolin, which features so prominently in the soap's history that it gives the Fat its name, is actually a wax. After a shave with MWF, you may feel that your cheeks have been polished like a piece of fine furniture. It's as though all the microscopic cracks and divots in your skin have been filled with the lanolin. On a hot day, this waxy finish is almost claustrophobic, but on a cool, rainy afternoon, it is splendid.
My first few shaves, I underloaded the brush and the result was a bubbly, thin lather. Switching to a boar brush and loading long and slow gave me a much better heap of suds. I never get the heavy, wet lather I can with Mike's, Cold River, or Mystic Water, but the Wool Fat has nevertheless always been for me very slick and protective, and its soft, smooth, soothing finish only improves as the hours pass.
