What soap/cream did you use today?

LPL - High Speed, I never liked the lather these pux made. Scents were ok,.... I tried to like them as they were getting a lot of love a few years back, but cushion and slickness was lacking. Do you get it dialed in?  Tell us brother!

Hi Tommy and Bouki.  

It's hard to answer fairly because I broke my own change control rules and changed two big things in the same shave:  (1) using an effectively new-to-me soap with (2) a different method of hydrating the brush.  It took an annoying amount of fiddling to get the lather decent enough for the first pass, at the end of which, the lather had dissipated to a bubbly, undense, unuseable mess.  What followed was a few {add soap/add water/work the lather} cycles at the end of which, I had an okay lather.  Even so, the process was worky, and the shave was not fun.

In fairness to LPL, the resulting shave was bloodless, on the borderline between CCS and DFS, and the skin felt rather good, although not uber good, as it feels with some of the best soaps.  I consider that an inconclusive but hopeful outcome, considering that my own lack of change control discipline must have hurt the process.  In any case, I'm planning to try again with the LPL Vetiver - using only familiar equipment and techniques - and I will make it a point to critique the soap again in this thread.

I had that experience with LpL. Admire your Captain Kirk no fear mentality. Lol forward to seeing your results.

This is my second shave with the larger $38 jars of LPL soap.  Unlike the first shave, I stuck with familiar gear and techniques for this shave.  However - and I am sorry to say this - both shaves were disappointing.  The lather tended to be bubbly and ultra thin.  I built an acceptable lather in the first shave, but it required too much work, and the lather was just acceptable - not great.  I called it quits after one pass during the second shave, and settled for a bloodless SAS.  

Perhaps I might have done better, or maybe if I stuck with LPL for a month, I might have learned how to use it better.  But life is too short, and there are too many great soaps on the market.  So unless I stumble across a fix - which is always welcome - I won't be using LPL again.

PS  The scents were pleasant but not exceptional.
PPS The post was less than top-shelf, but much better than I expected from the lather.

Stirling – Saguaro Blossom (clean, inviting, organic sweetness)

The lovely, beguiling scent of the Stirling Saguaro Blossom aftershave tempted me into the (unneeded) soap.  The soap's scent is far subtler; the longevity of the aftershave actually exceeds that of the Stetson Spirit Cologne.

Maker's notes: cactus blossom, lily, rose, coconut, amber, musk, and sandalwood.

My guess is Saguaro Blossom should have appeal across genders . . . something like Stirling's CK Everyone.
