2 pass shave

This was an A/B shave between the Kai Captain Standard R-Type and the Feather DX (wood handle). I was pushing this ProTouch MG blade a little but it worked OK.

These two razors were evenly matched for the shave. Both had similar blade feel. In areas where it was easy to get the correct angles, both shaved to the same level of closeness. The Kai with less blade exposure and narrower head allowed a flatter angle and was more maneuverable. This allowed the Kai to get a closer shave in the mustache area than the DX. The DX with the additional blade exposure easily handled the area of my neck where the hair grows in all directions. The DX would really shine if I had 4+ days of growth as the extra blade exposure would keep the razor from bogging down in the growth.

Overall, I would say I had a closer shave with the Kai, but I have been using it longer and am more comfortable with it. I am sure with more experience that I could achieve the same closeness with the DX. It is just a matter of learning different angles with the larger head and more blade exposure. I have mentioned before in other posts that I prefer the balance and looks of the DX with the wood handle over the Kai. If I ever lost the Kai, I would definitely buy another one. I am not sure if I would go for folding style again or for kamisori style. I picked up the DX second hand and it is a very nice razor. If I lost the DX I might buy another if I found it for a good price.

I switched to the Schick 500 for the second pass for the chin and mustache area. The chin only needed shaving on the tip of the chin.
