This is my idea of afternoon tea: sardines packed in mustard, soda crackers, and beer.

A very good afternoon "tea" indeed!

Great minds think alike. I mentioned much the same to the wife yesterday but it included smoked oysters and clams.

We are on our third straight day of rain, so no deer hunting. I decided to whip up a batch of venison chili.

Tonight we had chicken burritos with mole sauce and Spanish rice. Yum.

Well, I'm not quite ready to give up all chicken and fish yet.

This morning I had meatless "sausage" patties, a poached egg, and marmalade on dark sweet toast. There's not much better than marmalade on a snow-dusted morning.

Meatless chorizo in tomato sauce over Spanish rice with a heart of lettuce and feta salad. I'm just soooo glad no pigs were sacrificed.

Yes, gotta save those pigs!

I'm starting a muffuletta sandwich project. Since I can't find the right loaf of bread locally I made a batch of pizza dough today and split it into 2. Since it's a slow rise bread in the refrigerator, the plan is to bake the loaves this weekend for the sandwich. I don't know if it will be exactly a NOLA muffuletta, because I already know that the wife won't want mortadella because of the chunks of fat in it. But it'll probably have sandwich pepperoni and ham in it. Mine will have the olive salad, hers won't. Dang, I'm salivating thinking about it.

"Brian's Chili" is on the menu for later today, thanks to ShadowsDad. I am making a smaller portion and swapped in black beans instead of kidney.

Earlier this week I tossed out my cheapo slow cooker for various reasons and after debate replaced it with an unglazed/raw Lodge dutch oven. I've used it twice this week and very pleased with the results. Needless to say, as per the recipe, this chili will be cooked in the dutch oven.
