Used two razors today actually. Karve D plate solid bar on left side and Muhle Rocca on right. Wanted to see what I could learn as I’ve been asked to compare the Rocca on aggressiveness. First off let me state my taste In Razor aggression Is all over the place. I like the mild Mamba, Jagger DE89, both iterations of the gamechanger, Rockwell on 5 or 6, Futur not hotter than setting 2 but 1 is better.
So to start with I really like the Karve D. It’s a sweet 2 pass razor. Light touch and it treats me right. There is blade feel but not uncomfortable. Shave is comfortable but not what I would call beginner. Never had a nick or weeper that I can recall and I’ve used it plenty. This shave was very predictable on my left cheek. Angle on this razor is pretty “Gillette-ish” and intuitive.
Right cheek got the Rocca. A bit more blade feel but I was shocked at the balance. The razor just seemed to hover and I enjoyed that. Found it has a strong preference to a steeper angle. When held like the Karve it was not as smooth as when I kicked the razor handle out a few degrees. Man that puppy was smooth. (Note to self; pay attention to angle with this razor). It is not the same angle the DE89 likes because the Rocca domes the blade more.
Three passes. Alum block for a report card. Both had very mild sting. Both sides were very close. I’d give the nod to Rocca for the win on these mid aggressive razors.
