Side question here and this is coming from a guy who has two wolfmans but not a bbs-1.

Does anyone think that obtaining the “unicorn” bbs-1 razor subconsciously makes you think it is a great shaver when if it was readily available we wouldn’t all be so hyped about this razor?

We should do a blind study on a person who has never used one and compare it to similar razors???

I don't think James has made any mistakes. He does whatever he wants, whenever he wants. Sounds like freedom, he's living the dream. He never takes deposits and owes nothing to anyone. If his business all went away tomorrow I actually think he'd be ok with that and he'd continue making a living and enjoying his life. I don't believe he stresses about any of this. He inspires me.

It's probably the most beautiful modern razor, the craftmanship is out of this world, you had to wait months or more than a year to be able to order one, very very limited availability, a truly great shaver( at least for me) once you find the right angle, the original design is now discontinued etc. Do I need to say more?

Those who had the luck to hold one, understand. Others may be jealous.

The shaving part is totally subjective and opinions differ.

I admire James' work, but he could have taken better decisions. Sometimes I feel he has no idea what he's doing. I read somewhere that BBS-1 was about to be discontinued a month or so ago but after seeing the huge demand on fora, he and John changed their minds. And now this. haha

I had one (not the very first run), and sold it.  It looked nice, but I didn't understand the hype.

I don't think that I KNOW that is the case. There have been NUMEROUS threads here saying the same thing. I think the Timeless that I have is a better razor shave wise, but nobody is going to admit that when they just shelled out big bucks for a Wolfman on the secondary market. It HAS to be better than anything else, because, it costs more.

I was just talking to a friend recently that it would be fun to take all the high end razors to a local machinist or engineer and without telling them the values to have them rank them based on craftsmanship and design. Of course that requires some having one of each so I’m out.

I'm not knocking the piece of art aspect of Wolfman at all. They are beautiful pieces of art, but it has become a, "Keeping up with the Joneses," thing. It's actually funny to watch.

On another site it was posted that LASS co was sold and that may be why James is no longer making the BBS1 for them

I was lucky to have owned three different BBS-1 razors throughout the last five years. While the razors were a piece of art and did provide good shaves, for me they were never on par with my most favorite razors (in efficiency and face-feel). I let the BBS-1s go and still keep my top 5 DEs:

BlackBird
CharcoalGoods L3
Paradigm Ti (first gen)
WR1 .67 and .74
Weber PH

Alright, but did you use say a vintage Gillette when you first started DE shaving or did you just start by using expensive boutique razors right out of the chute?
Secretary Ramsey put his foot into it yesterday . . . in the course of his remarks he said that California “needs water and better society.”  “So does h-ll,” yelled someone in the crowd.
