I guess, like you, I'll placate my SAD with other soaps.

I think that even after receiving the CF Lime, I'll have room for one more tub so I'll reserve it for the Gatsby.  Then, I won't be buying any more soap or creams until I've finished something.

I’ve got a tub that I used once to lather test. Going to include it in a small lot at the end of the week.

Did you ever put the Gatsby up for sale? I'd be happy to take the just that tub off your hands. Big Grin

Don't know if you found a tub yet, but I sent an email to WCS the other day. Same story, unfortunately... They plan to have it back, but no definitive date yet.

Yeah. They may not know either. I think the relationship between WCS and PAA went South so now they have to find someone else to make their soap for them. That takes some time, especially when you weren't planning on changing vendors. I think this may have come as a surprise to WCS. I guess stuff happens. I'm somehow less motivated now since there is no guarantee the new vendor will continue to make all the new scents. Although you would think that WCS has a lot to lose if Gatsby goes away since it was their #1 scent. Time will tell I guess. In the meantime I bought a tub of Moon Soaps Old School. Shaved with it for the first time this morning and it was really nice. Mild yet really nice scent, good slickness and pretty decent post shave feel. I'll post more detailed thoughts once i've got 3 shaves with it.

This is really too bad. But it makes sense now why I wasn't able to find Gatsby, Rum Runner, etc on the site the other day. Typically, they would still have the scents but note them as "Sold Out".

From a selfish standpoint, I hope they offer Oleo Soapworks the opportunity to make the soaps. I would love a tub of Gatsby in the Canard formula

I have the Oriental in their Jojoba formula... It's really good. I've heard the Duck Fat is even better.

I actually haven't tried anything by Oleo yet... I have a sample of theirs (something tropical) but the scent was a bit off putting, so I delayed giving it a try. I'll have to use it sometime soon.

It's good they have two other established soap makers working with them. Good chance that they'll get a reboot for Gatsby. Hopefully sooner than later.

I’m really intrigued by the scent, as the reviews have been so positive. However, the one negative seems to be a fairly glaring one — a few reviewers have expressed that the wonderful scent of the so-called “aftershave cologne” fades rather quickly. That’s a huge bummer when it’s such a pleasant scent…

(My experiences with other PAA-made aftershave colognes have been similar in the sense that where some stick around for the entire day, others fade rather quickly.)

I just surfed to the link in Matsilainen's post.  The set is still sold out, but the price has gone up from $32 to $39.96.  Sad

Sad to hear this might be the case. It could also present a problem when it comes to the continuation of the scent. If Phoenix developed the scent, was there an explicit agreement that their scent composition becomes the exclusive property of West Coast? If not, will Phoenix eventually release it as their own product?

One always hopes that such things are agreed upon in writing before a project is begun. Otherwise there’s the danger that no one will ever be able to enjoy something again, as there is no clarity about who is allowed to continue to produce it…

Ok folks.  It seems WCS has found another soap maker and their site has the Gatsby No. 1 now available.  They are calling it V2 and it has as its base duck fat.  Not sure if the scent is the same as the previous version.  I'm hesitant to buy it since it was the scent that really drew me into the first version.  That said I am very tempted to throw all caution to the wind and just order a tub.  I could be swayed by some gentle prodding from my fellow shaving enthusiasts.

The ingredients of the original PAA formula is as follows:

Ingredients: Potassium Stearate, Glycerin, Potassium Cocoate, Aqua, Potassium Kokumate, Sodium Lactate, Potassium Shea Butterate, Potassium Castorate, Sodium Stearate, Potassium Cocoa Butterate, Potassium Avocadoate, Parfum [Fragrance]

And the ingredients for the new version is as follows:

Ingredients: Stearic Acid, Water, Kokum Butter, Potassium Hydroxide, Palm Kernel Oil, Duck Fat, Sodium Hydroxide, Castor Oil, Glycerin, Jojoba Oil & Sodium Lactate

Maybe someone who understands what the ingredients are and how they impact the final product can comment on the new formulation. I just noticed one more thing.  The old tubs had 4 oz. of product and the new ones have 5 oz.

Looks like the "new" ingredient list is the same as the list used for their other soaps which were made for WCS by Oleo Soapworks. IF you need any prodding, I would strongly recommend getting a tub as Oleo produces a great soap Big Grin

Bingo. That's all the prodding I need. Ordering myself a tub. My year of purchases is done in only three months!
