I am wondering what your recommendation is regarding the use of washers to protect your DE's.

1. Do you do it / recommend it? If so, is there specific washer you use (please share link).
2. Does it change the shave in a material way?
3. Are there certain razors where you can't use a washer (I am thinking of those where the handle screws into the base plate like the Tatara, Blackbird, and also perhaps where the base plate is shaped in such a way that the washer does not fit properly, like Charcoal Goods razors).

Thanks for your guidance.

Yes, BB and Tatara are 2 examples. I was able to use a washer on the CG I had.

Here’s an old thread that may still have some helpful information.

Since I take apart my razors after every shave and clean them I find washers a pain so I don’t use them

Of all the things I’m anal about when it comes to my razors’ finish ( and there is quite a few) I’ve never used a washer. Not for or against...just never tried it for some reason.

I only use them to prevent scratching on my Wolfman, Charcoal Goods, and H&S. They prevent the handle from running a circle in the baseplate. Of course it doesn’t change the shave, it’s just a washer.

I'm a recent convert to using them. I like them and don't find them necessary but I found it to be a nice way to try and lengthen the lifespan of my razors. I can be a little rough and tumble with my gear every once and while.

I bought mine from Maggards. A pack of 10 nylon washers for $1, I bought two packs to give away with BST sales.

Always seemed risky to me. Nylon washers have more compression than the stainless baseplate. That means you're putting more stress on the threads when you use them. It's probably negligible, and likely won't lead to any issues, but I'll take the ring (which you can't see with the razor assembled anyway) over the risk of damage to the threads.
