Less sticky clutter is better, especially for an isolated case. If it is necessary, maybe we can consolidate the two PayPal F&F posts into one, then add a general tips sticky (with water damage being one of the bullet points).

Sorry that happened to ya Dan! That really is a new low. Even as overwhelmed as USPS is, they should still show care for the packages they are handling.

I'd tend to agree here. I don't see this as needing to be a sticky. we can also work to combined the paypal f&f threads, too.

I wouldn't hit the panic button just yet.  I have a razor that was accepted by the UK Royal Mail on 12/2, cleared NYC customs on 12/10, and then took 20 days - with no tracking updates - to travel 285 miles via USPS to my home.  The good news is that it arrived bone dry and in perfect condition. 

I'm sorry for Dan of course, and I'd like to say I never worried about my own package, but I'd be lying.  So even though nothing can substitute for the day when - hopefully - you are holding your intact parcel in your hands - the odds are heavily on your side.  As others have pointed out, Dan's experience - unacceptable as it is - is the exception rather than the rule.

I’ve had enough bad experiences with the USPS that I ship with, UPS or FEDEX when ever possible. The poor service and excuses in addition to higher prices are just to much. My two previous Carriers retired, God bless them. The temps covering the route now just seem disgruntled. They are not happy and neither am I.

Sorry to hear about Dan's bad experience.
Nearly all of the blades I have ordered have come packed in zipseal plastic bags. I have received 5 shipments from Amazon (100 blades each time) and all of them have arrived in a very thick black plastic zipseal bag. I only have dealt with two vendors who did not place blades in a plastic bag prior to shipping. One was a big name domestic shaving supply, who uses a horrible "fulfillment company" (they have messed up many orders and package goods poorly). The other was a popular supplier of blades, based in Morocco.

Wish could state this an isolated incident but of 50+ packages shipped USPS Priority Mail since July, about 33% have taken multiple weeks to arrive and 8 have gone missing never to be found (roughly 50% having significant issues).  Prior to this past couple months had lost 1 pkg in 10 years and at least 98% on time delivery; packages sent to me have had even worse outcomes.  Moreover, the delays and losses are trending worse, not better and not even flat.  Our local post master states that Atlanta is so bad that they have flown in a full shift from Memphis that has been trying to right the ship without success.  While it may be isolated to Atlanta, it certainly is not isolated to this one package.  Regular mail is an outrage, only now receiving Christmas cards from around the nation mailed in late Novembre to early Decembre based on originating postmark.

Point isn't to bitch in a public forum re mail service nor to scare monger, rather it is to give a heads up to people unaccustomed to deteriorated service levels to consider extraordinary mitigating efforts when using USPS: wrap the internals in water proof plastic bags, insure for the full value of your shipments (have found this is the most critical element in minimizing chances of a lost pkg as the USPS seems to take tracking seriously when insured versus shirking responsibility and care when a pkg uninsured).  Essentially it an admonition to consider everything that could potentially go wrong during shipping no matter the improbability and take steps to guard against its occurrence

I work for one of the other courier companies and many people put a lot of faith in us because we are not the post office, and they should they are paying a higher rate. Antidotally when customers grip about the rate I point out we are not subsidized. But to my point, the shear volume has buried us. Mind boggling numbers, a struggle to get trucks on the road on time.

If I were shipping anything I cared a great deal about, I would ship it air express open an account and try to save on your rate. Pack smart size matters.

Heads up there is a coupon on line for 20% off ground shipping. I would post , but I am sure forum rules prohibit.

As Dan said declare a value while this cost extra and does not imply insurance! Insurance is often covered in homeowners or renters insurance.

Oh well I am sure I have messed up somewhere in what I said so forgive me.
