I've been looking at these recently.. what do you all think??
I recently acquired and sold off the cologne and the Fougere scents. Performance was out of this world awesome, but the scent left a lot to be desired. The cologne scent was so faint and the for the fougere and cologne all I could smell was the soap base. If your interested in Valobra products go for the C&Z 88, which I have and love or the C&Z Oxford and Cambridge. Those scents are a lot stronger and perform just the same. FWIW, I hear the Patchouly scent is ok.
I was scoping them out, myself, and ended up buying one of the NOS Art of Shaving soaps off ebay, since they were manufactured by Valbora. It was really nice, but the sandalwood was rivaled by a wet newspaper smell. The performance, however, was outstanding, so I'll probably follow Lestorfreemon's advice and get the 88 or Oxford and Cambridge, as well.

Well, you enablers, I've got a puck of Oxford & Cambridge on the way. I found a round container at Marshall's for it. I don't think I can spring an extra $120 for an aluminum dish.
I just got the Fougere today ...
The scent is good. The soap is okay. I did a couple of test lathers before using it for shaving and think I got a real feel for the soap. Yeah, it's okay. Quite dry, likes a lot of water. Cushion and slip is okay, did the job. Post-shave feel is okay. Not overawed, but not disappointed.
Fair to middling.
My benchmark soap is MWF, which is a good cut above this to me. My best rated soaps are from Meißner Tremonia. From the soaps in my collection, I'd put this in above the likes of Arko and Erasmic; about the same as Monsavon, De Vergulde Hand, Dr Selby, DR Harris, C&S; not as good as vintage Rolls Razor, vintage Habitat, Tabac or MWF and certainly nowhere near Meißner Tremonia.
