As far as CRSW Olivia goes, they are getting great reviews AND their reputation as a shave soap maker is beyond reproach. Just by reading that label I would have guessed that I was looking at an inferior soap proving two things, 1) I don't know everything, and 2) my search is not in vain. (Great job CRSW)

I had a thread on this very subject called not so well known artisans, I have found a few on ebay on the past year. One to mention bearded jacks, they have great scents and the soap performs as well as any other.

CRSW Oliva uses high stearic acid to buttress the stability of the olive oil and a predominantly potassium hydroxide lye.

Most shave soaps are predominantly stearic acid, actually. Without the stearic acid you end up with some pretty finicky stuff. Additionally, traditional body soap uses sodium hydroxide as the alkali to saponify fats and oils, while shaving soap seems to need predominantly potassium hydroxide for the lye.

Put it all together, and basically if you see olive oil as a first ingredient, and/or you see only sodium hydroxide, chances are high it won't lather. It should make a solid body soap though!

I have tried Griffith Shaving Goods soap. Nice tallow based with simple EO scents. I like their Tea Tree Soap a lot

I have to be honest, at this point in my long journey I don't gamble anymore.  I have a few brands that I like and stick with them.

I do enjoy reading reviews Smile

Mason Boutique makes great soaps! Performance is top notch and the scents are great. She has a name and story to go with every scent she offers. Vivian is my favorite scent. Check these soaps out!
