I have 3 or 4 of Peter's early brushes (I believe that was his name) and love them all.

I have the original 2201 and it has not left my rotation since I got it.  A wonderful brush at a reasonable price.

if Peter's site is still online, I'll have to check to see which ones I have. I own 3 of his badgers...I'm fairly sure I have a 2201.

Green Mountain soaps. Super slick and great post shave. I have been using mine exclusively for the past month and have to say it the perfect soap for straight shaving.

Hot towel prep, most I'm guessing splash water on the face or shave in the shower but I find when I have some time a hot towel adds a lot to a shave.

Do you let it sit or wipe around?

I use the towel at first held against my face for a few moments heating it back up periodically and you could also use some scented oils while doing this to heighten the experience , very much a meditation type moment for me. Then I use the same towel to clean up after shaving in between etc.

Shaven in the Past
I started with Arko and agree. I also think that Arko has one of the neatest labels. But I've moved on to traditional bowl lathering.

Although I'm pretty much a strict Gillette vintage guy I do own (and occasionally use) a Schick Krona. I think the Krona shaves every bit as well as any vintage Gillette. An unsung vintage razor that's also for the nice ladies because of it's mild manner and longer handle.

Undrrated by whom?  Wetshaving enthusiasts on YouTube, the forums, and Amazon are but one small segment of a very large marketplace. There are lots of artisan soaps sold on Etsy, the majority of which get little or no mention at all on the forums or YouTube.  Some of these soaps are quite good.

I agree with you about Wholly Kaw and Crabtree & Evelyn, but Mama Bear and Stirling are among the most frequently referenced and promoted soaps on the forums.  Maybe it is only certain places where they receive scant mention?

Crabtree & Evelyn have sold highly regarded shaving creams for at least 15 years, and maybe longer.  They must have some pretty good sales figures for that to happen, and have obviously been quite popular over time.

Maybe Proraso did not send free product to the right reviewers or list-makers? There seems to be a lot of free product doled out in exchange for reviews these days, and not only for shaving products.

Wholly Kaw is the slickest veggie soap I own and that includes Pannacrema Nuavia Blu/Rossa and Saponoficio Varesino. To me, it out performs any other veggie soap I've tried.
