Justin,
Can you tell me a little about the knot in the brush?

I love the look of the brush and want one but I'm wondering if I'd be better off trying to buy just the handle, or to try and buy the brush without the knot set and install a better knot myself. I'm not even sure if this is something that they would do.

I think the brush looks awesome enough that it deserves a really nice knot.

I had the same reservations.

I know that you weren't asking me. I was thinking about typing something about this very topic though.

I just shaved with mine today.
With the silvertip knot it came with.

It is very nice. I'm really happy with it.

The knot in my brush only needed two or three test lathers. I'm very particular about new badger funk by the way. So I don't just mention that in passing.

Mine has a little glue bump that I can feel from the sides but not so much from the top or at all during use.

This thing is a wall of badger.

Absolutely gorgeous. Extremely dense and soft feel to the tips with a surprising amount of backbone for a silvertip. I'm very impressed. It's got a great combination that I like and don't often think of when a silvertip brush is the topic of conversation. It's dense, soft tipped, and has not a lot of bloom.

Mine is similar to the Envy Luxury Silvertip I have.

They're not the same. The Turtleship I have here has more backbone though. They're equally well stuffed. The Envy Luxury Silvertip is just a bit floppy and I have it set at a much lower loft. They are similar though as a point of reference. Different colored tips but similar density and proportions.

This one almost feels like a good two band badger brush to me.

I am not going to be replacing the knot in mine.

Hard to beat the price for a cool looking brush with an excellent knot.

If I hadn't seen that blue striped resistor in the second batch of pictures I would have said that was a Steam Punk brush. Can it be NeoSteam Punk?

Todd,

Thank you for the detailed response.  It was exactly what I was looking for.

I did reach out to Turtleship and asked about getting a brush without the knot.  They kindly offered to look into a specific knot for me and were super nice about it, but they don't generally sell the brushes without the knot, or without the knot attached.

So, I said what the hell and ordered it anyway.  I do have a Envy Luxury Silvertip brush and I really enjoy it.  A knot that's a cross between that knot and a nice 2 band silvertip does sound appealing to me.

Interesting concept, great idea for a handle. I believe I saw something similar - with watch parts - from an artisan, missing the name though. Good that the knot is decent. Seems the plisson type knots sell the fastest.
Enjoy the brush!

Ok, so I received the Machine brush in yesterday's mail. The brush is a lot nicer in person than on their website. The pictures there don't do it justice.
I did a couple test lathers and the knot feels really soft. It's quite nice, however it's a bit too floppy for my taste.
I could use it but I don't see myself reaching for this brush over the Shavemac 2 band silvertip or Paladin brushes that sit next to it.

So I grabbed hold of the knot and gave it a small tug to see if I'd get lucky and get the knot out in one piece. Sure enough a couple more light tugs and it popped out fully intact. I cleaned out the hole with a dremel and the handle is ready for a higher end knot. That couldn't have gone any better.

I like the handle enough to drop a much better knot in it. Now the question is which one. Maybe an Elite Razor Manchurian, as I've been wanting to try that one for a while, or a Declaration knot which is on my must try list? Maybe something else?
