If I'm only taking a carry-on bag on the plane then my minimal gear would be as below:

Re-used leather shoe cleaning kit bag containing:
Pre: Proraso pre-shave - sensitive
Soap: La Toja shave stick
Brush: Mühle Travel synthetic
Razor: Gillette Guard
After: Aqua Velva Ice Blue AS, Lea ASB

Gillette Guard - carry on or hold, close but not too close
Bulldog Shaving Gel - smashing gel, easy to use in all scenarios
Selin Cologne - highly alcoholic and a great aftershave splash for hot countries

I can get a shave without any issues and without all the paraphernalia ... and get straight on with the reason I've travelled.

I took a Gillette Tech, pack of Polsilvers, cheap brush and a stick of Arko last time I went away. Keep it simple.

If I was travelling carry on then it'd have to be disposable carts instead of the Tech - in fact I'd probably just grab some at my destination.

This is going to be interesting. I'll be in Europe for 3 weeks in August on a backpacking trip (and having literally only a carry-on size backpack as luggage). Am planning to take my Omega S brush, Speik stick, travel-size Nivea ASB and my Maggard MR-5 and buy blades on location. Does anyone know if decent blades are widely and easily available in the Scandinavian regions? If not, I may just opt to buy disposables on location.

Good question. I'm going to guess that you will find blades there. There was a discussion about wet shaving supplies in Sweden on B&B. http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/Sweden_shaving_supplies

I just returned from a trip yesterday. I took the following:

Razor: Gillette Guard (I like to carry on my bag) great travel razor
Brush: L' Occitane Plisson in an old prescription bottle (this will now be either a white or black bristle Satin Tip that was awaiting me when I got home yesterday)
Soap: This trip it was what was left of a Soap Commander Respect sample. I thought I could kill it but its still alive....
AS: This trip some 4711 in one of those cheap plastic bottles you can get in the travel section at walmart
AS Balm: This trip a sample of Soap Commander Respect that I received when I had recently ordered their seasonal soap

For each trip its different but I always carry out sample sized of whatever I am taking in small containers and it all easily fits in my dop kit and I can carry it on since I take a Gillette Guard for my razor.

I'm currently in Disney World. As soon as I saw no razors in luggage, I figured I'm not shaving for the week. Lol

On a quick side note. I was just walking through downtown Disney (the shopping district) and I saw a store called "the art of shaving" and they had a barber with an old world barber chair shaving someone. How cool is that! I may have to run over tomorrow and go in since I fly home Sunday morning. I thought that was pretty ironic lol.
