All

After an unplanned trip to the ER (usually unplanned, huh), I'm thinking about "things."

Like many of you, I have collected a lot of shaving things.  Here's a sample.  I need to downsize.  Much of it is random.  Some kinda scarce, some not so much.  The BST is rather soft lately.  Do I list items individually?  List it in lots?  Do some PIFs?  Or just put it all in a box and let my kids toss it after I'm dead?

I expect I'm not the only person here confronting this circumstance.  Any ideas?  Suggestions?

I posted this on another forum as well.  I'm slightly desperate for ideas.

Thanks

I hope you’re doing ok health wise. Life throws us curve balls that’s for sure but we all know what’s coming sooner or later so you’re smart to deal with this stuff in the manner you want.

I’d try to sell it as a package deal for whatever price you think is fair. Either itemized or “grab bag” style. Unless you want to take the time to list and sell everything individually which would involve a fair amount of time and effort.

selling as one lot will definitely be quicker but you might lose some money...

if anything, I'd list them in groups like brushes, razors, soaps, etc..

You might consider donations to such non-profits as VFW (Veterans Of Foreign Wars) or other such organizations.

Wow! Knew you'd been to the ER but getting rid of shaving gear seems a bit excessive doesn't it? (Poor joke I know). Do what you need to do to get better and just for the record my boys and daughter are circling like buzzards awaiting the day they make a grab for the shaving stuff. Makes me glad actually.

I've seen posts with good prices with high shipping rates work well. An example is list a flat $16.80 shipping ( medium flat rate box) and then list prices for items. Idea is to list prices low enough for folks to fill up the box. This will reduce your trips to the Post Office.

Another idea the Sue Moore Auction on B&B.

Hi Max; first and foremost I hope you begin to feel much better!

Some of the ideas above are pretty good.  Personally, I would categorize things first before you sale any of it. I would definitely get a notebook and have Fun cataloging your collection.  If you have children or grandchildren that share your passion for shaving, maybe they could help?  If not, grab one of the kids in your family and make a fun connection with one of them. I wish I lived close, I’d LOVE to help you go through those treasure drawers of yours! I bet you’ve got some pretty cool stories about some of those pieces!

An example scenario would be you sitting there opening each sleeve in your amazing brush drawer and dictate the description of that brush to the person doing the steno work.  Working with someone in this fashion won’t overwhelm you and in my opinion would be fun. The key thing here is to have someone help you.  It will feel less of a chore.

When listing your wares, I wouldn’t overwhelm yourself there either. Maybe listing 3 brushes and 3 razors every Friday morning until you feel you have a grip on your collection.
