Timor Blades

What’s the story with these blades and what is your experience with them?

My friend zaclikestoshave gave me one and I just used it and I was impressed. Curious to get other views of folks more experienced with this blade. Thanks!

I have not specifically used blades labeled with the Timor brand. These blades are sold as "ice tempered" blades made in Solingen. I have used a couple of other blades that were labeled "ice tempered" made in Solingen, so I presume they came from the Timor factory. They are the Van Der Hagen blades and older blades sold under the Merkur brand. Merkur no longer markets "ice tempered" blades. but now markets blades from the Czech Republic.

For my tough beard, the "ice tempered" blades were unacceptably dull. Both the Van Der Hagen and Merkur "ice tempered" blades ripped out my beard hairs rather than cutting through them. Thus, I cannot get a decent shave using these blades.

I have tried the Merkur blades made in the Czech Republic and they are a significant improvement over the "ice tempered" blades. While they are not blades I would purchase regularly, they are sharp enough that I could use them.

Cryogenic hardening can toughen the edge of the blade, prolonging its durability. Thus, if the Timor blades are sharp enough to slice cleanly through your beard, they might be great blades for you. As for me, I have no intention of trying them.

I would suggest not to go overboard with a 100 pack. Sample 5-10 blades first. I was not that impressed when I tried them few years ago.
