Timeless base plate choices.

I need some guidance on the base plate choices from Timeless for their Ti razor. There are two choices. One is described as mild with a .68mm blade gap. The other is described as Med. Aggressive with a .95 mm blade gap. 

For reference, I tried a Feather AS-D2 and found it to be too mild. To give you an idea of what I like, I tried the Rockwell 6S with the #4 baseplate and the Merkur Progress set to 4 and like them both. I'd like something with a similar aggression level as the 6S and the Progress.

So which baseplate would you recommend?

The suggestion given by rawfox1 is very good as this would offer you the best way to decide for yourself which plate best suits you.

There is also the option of the Slim base plate. Even though the description of it is aggressive, I have found it to be more efficient than aggressive and actually quite enjoyable to shave with. I have the OC with a scalloped cap.

I'm like you in that my regular driver is the Rockwell #4 on a timeless TRH5 handle. I also had a timeless bronze .38gap but that was just way too aggressive for me. I've been told that Timeless plates, in order of mildest to most aggressive is .68, .38 bronze, .95., .5(slim), .78 bronze. As always YMMV


As the others have recommended, order both Ti plates and see which one works best for you and return the other.

I agree with the others about getting both plates & return the one you don't like. If you're looking at spending less than the cost of two baseplates, I suggest starting with the .95 SB. It is incredibly smooth & efficient. It could easily be my daily driver.

The recommendation to order both to try is a good one, but it depends on having the funds for both, and also on where you are. If not in the US, it might cost you a bit more to post back whichever plate you like less... so you might end up keeping both...

Based on your favourite razors at the moment, I suspect .95 SB Ti would work well for you. But it also depends on whether you shave daily or not... I really like it, but I know some people find that .95 can be a bit much as a permanent daily shaver, they can use it 3-4 days in a row and then they need a break with a milder shaver...
If you’re shaving every other day, or less often, I’d definitely go for .95.
