The meaning that I know for 86 is restaurant jargon for being out of something. "86 the special!" (It's no longer available so if somebody tries to order it it sell them something else.)

86 comes from the old CB radio 10-code, e.g. "10-4 good buddy." 10-86 meant to discontinue chatter on that channel so it could be used for some official purpose. Now when one 86s something they stop doing it.

Well I can't tell for others, but for me the cost of soap making actually is in the... making. It's not the ingredients or the containers, so making a sample costs me the same as making the full product. It could be a good investment just the same. I hope this clarifies some of the economics.

The idea of an e-shop to sell soap samples is good though, but introduces sanitation issues and the associated regulations, in Europe for sure, I'm not sure about the States.

The latter would be my concern as well.

The other issue with samples they must meet full labeling compliance.

You mean the video below dated 4/8? I have no idea what business he is talking about but that's his loss. I am not paying $20 to find out I think the brand is terrible, I'm allergic to an ingredient, or the scent stinks. I don't buy his argument for a minute. Maggards and TSD seem to do a booming business selling samples along with many Artisans such as Route 66, Mystic, WSP, etc etc etc. Even the big boys like GFT, T&H, SJOL sell samples.

And here is the sad part. I watched one his other videos where he is praising another "artisans" product. And I went against my better instinct, and bought a full tub because I like what the scent was trying to emulate. And I found that the scent was terrible, no where near what it was supposed to emulate, and the product itself subpar. Lesson learned. No samples, then its a hard sell for me (with minor exceptions).

So if he doesn't sell samples, thats his business model. Cool. Good luck with that. He loses a potential customer.
