The Wonderful USPS....

So there was supposed to be a Paladin delivered this afternoon. Go to get the mail and only a few envelopes and no package. I go to double check the tracking as it landed in LA last night so it was looking like it would be on time. I drive down to the post office and I actually love my local post office. The people are very nice, helpful and normally give outstanding service.

Here's the issue. Their whole system is down. No tracking is available online and they can't do jack $%!*. The thing I find frustrating about logistics and technology is there is a possibility that my package is still in the delivery truck yet, because we are so reliant on computers, the employees at the post office aren't able to know about the packages in their own city. Even with a tracking number, it doesn't matter if it is right next to them or down the street, if the system is down, as they said, "it may get there tomorrow but we can't do anything for you."

Normally the service from USPS is decent and I'm sure I am a bit frustrated but I always worry about packages getting delivered when I am not home only to sit on the porch all day when I can't keep them from possibly being stolen.

Hang in there Zach. I'm expecting a package too and notice the tracking is down.

Hopefully it's up soon. Maybe call a neighbor to grab the package in the meantime.

Finally they get the website and tracking back up and it has taken them 2 days to keep it within the same state which it has shipped from. I get so tired of these expected delivery dates. No updates as to why it has been delayed or an updated or more accurate arrival date.

I've had my local deliverer not deliver a package that was on the truck multiple times. Last time they turned around and came back with it. Other times I have tracked it down at the post office.

I find USPS by far the easiest, most reliable and most friendly of the major delivery carriers. Love me my USPS. BUT I hate Registered Mail. Takes forever and no tracking.

l, too, prefer USPS to other major carriers but when things go wrong they can be doozies.  To be fair, though, when things work, which I believe is more often than not, the service is phenomenal.  My friend, Pam, lives in REALLY rural Wisconsin.  She is seven miles from the nearest post office and it is so small it has limited hours.  Yet, the number of times I have sent her a priority box and I'm told at my post office that it will get there in two days, and it does, is just incredible.

I do agree with, zaclikestoshave though.  If there is something like a computer glitch it can screw up more things, and much faster, than human error.  Here's hoping that package gets to you soon and in fine condition.

I was actually impressed - local post office and mail delivery person are outstanding.

I get the frustration, I got an email saying an item was shipped, problem: when I look up the tracking number it says it was successfully delivered in April

As a ex-supervisor of a shipping and receiving company, USPS takes their sweet time to update their tracking information. Sometimes it won't get updated until the point of delivery. YMMV, but if you receive frequent packages to your residence, it should be no problem.

Thanks for your responses vtmax Freddy SharptoothC jar Standard llalm . Looking back, I was probably a bit on edge on Monday dealing with some work stress/hickups. I have no issue with USPS getting the credit that is due. As I said before, I have had great experiences with my local post office over the other one I infrequently visit in another town. Luckily the package is said to be delivered today so overall, a two day delay is unfavorable but not unacceptable and sometimes happens.
