Glad you had good luck with cold water shaving. It's just dreadful for my face the few times I tried.

Tried it once and didn't see benefit in it. Kind of uncomfortable.

Cool shower, menthol preshave something(I use PAA Prickly Pear), use cold water to bloom a menthol soap, cold water on the brush, cold water on the razor to rinse between strokes, cold rinses and some menthol aftershave, mmm, tingly  Happy  lol  Well.. I know what kind of shave I'm doing tomorrow morning!  Happy2

Is the concept of this that the cold will make hair stand out more and thus get a closer shave? Any other benefits?

I will have to try this. Maybe not with my Stirling Glacials...but will try it.

Last night a tried another cold water shave, however I used B&M's Arctique (Vegan Formula) for the soap. It was so cold that it was borderline being an uncomfortable shave. Had trouble building the lather (haven't quite figured out the correct soap to water ratio). The lather could have been slicker. The audible noise coming from the razor sounded like cold steel scraping through the hair however it did not feel like it. It was overall a very cold and very smooth shave. I will definitely try it again after I have better success building the lather and possibly when its hotter outside. If you have not tried a cold water shave with a heavily menthol'd soap, you should try it once. The post shave sensation is great!

I think there is something to how the razor sounds when using cold water vs. hot, jsanchez as I've heard the difference as well. I know how my Gillette Slim sounds when using hot, and it's not the same as when using cold water. Maybe the whiskers don't became as soft with cold water? While still moist enough to cut easily, they offer just a little more resistance that makes a difference in sound? I dunno, could be me Tongue

I've using only cold water lately, well, not in the shower Sick lol And I've enjoying it and I do think my skin has been getting better slowly, less bumps and such. My fav though is PAA Prickly Pear, using Maggards Orange Menthol Soap and the match aftershave, omg so good! Or, switch the Maggards for Kramprts Frostbite or one of those two soaps and Fine Snake Bite Happy

Just don't do that and then step outside to get the mail Happy2

I thought to myself after the Shave was done "Now that's Brisk Baby!" From the old Brisk drink commercials. Lol

I don't know what causes it but the hairs sounded like they weren't going down with out a fight.

The cold causes the arrector pilli muscles to contract around the hair follicle making the hair stand up more erect. So you're getting a crisper cut through the hair which resonates differently.
