Well, I tried a cold water shave today.
Brush: Vintage Plisson EW
Soap: Arko
Razor: Razorock Slant
Blade: Astra SS
Prep: None
I did what I call my usual work-day shave. No prep, as I shower the night before. Wet the face with cold water (in this case). Rub the Arko stick all over, build a lather with cold water...and shave.
The lather built as usual. Lots of thick, slick lather. It was a 24 h growth, so it wasn't out of the norm. The shave was pretty standard -- a 2-pass, close comfortable shave. I wouldn't say that it was any better or worse than my regular shave. The razor is pretty mild, and with this blade, it was able to give me a nice shave.
Basically, this is the first time in a long time that I had a cold water shave and it was not remarkable one way or the other. I'll try it again for a few days and see if it offers any advantages over a warm water shave. Maybe there'll be some long-term skin benefits. Cold water should result in less drying of the skin. We'll see.

Well, I did another shave using cold water. Everything was the same as previously, except that I used a Gillette Super Thin blade. Results were good, but I cannot really notice any difference from my regular warm water shave. I think a longer-term study will be required to see if there are any benefits or issues with using cold water. I'll give you guys an update once I've tried it enough to make a determination about whether or not this is significantly different (for me) from using warm water.
One thing: it's not really any less comfortable or enjoyable using cold water instead of warm water. I can see myself using them both in the future....depending on my mood.
