Here's my side-by-side comparison.  Jeff corrected me that the Gibbs I'm using must be the brass variant due to the weight and appearance, not the aluminum version as I mentioned in the video.  Thanks for pointing that out jmudrick I appreciate your expertise on the matter.

Were the modified blades notched or snipped? I've never done a scientific side by side but I'd think there might be some difference in favor of properly aligned notched blades.

They were snipped. The inserts have ridges that keep the blade aligned properly no matter which method you use to modify it.

Alignment was always easier snipping. Getting the notches exactly right more of a challenge because there was no fine tuning once loaded. The snipping in theory just seem less secure with two less points of contact without the posts doing their job.

Agreed.

And I agree with you Garrett - the 3D inserts are a game-changer for owning a Gibbs razor. Just as an FYI, I don't think that Aaron at FrugalShave originated the inserts. My understanding is that someone on a French forum originally developed them. If you own your own 3D printer, you can find the file for them on the internet. I downloaded the file and then printed some out for myself using Shapeworks. But if Aaron is selling them, it's probably just as easy to get them from him.

You're probably right. I just know Aaron made the ones in the razor I was using. I actually put the link to the 3D printer files in my video description for those that have the ability and desire to print them.

The files are at thingiverse but he made like 30 for me for like $12 so he probably has the files already.
