Noticed there wasn't one in this section in spite of the name. While DE is a luxury I like using electrics for either quick shaves of minimal beard or when I'm traveling. And minimal chance to cut yourself too.

I've had a rotary and three foils. The former would work better for denser beards than my whisker like ones. And because they tug before cutting it bothers my skin more.

Of the foils I found the Braun S8/S9 quieter but not as covering as much as the Panasonic 5 blade model. S9 is a minor improvement in terms of handling more growth; I'd only pay more if you find them at Costco. As long as you have clipper oil (from a barber supply store) and rubbing alcohol (70 percent is better at sterilizing than 90) there's no need to buy refills of soap that these companies often foist upon you.

Other reviews and experiences welcome.

I've owned a couple of Brauns, but when I found that replacement foils were no longer available for my two-year-old razor, I gave up and switched to Gillette Good News Plus disposables for a while. (Then went to DEs and injectors.)

Does anyone know if you can still get foils for a circa 1960/70 Schick Flexamatic? Made in “Western Germany”.  It really is a Schick not Schlick.

I started using Norelco rotary head electric shavers when I was a teenager with severe acne. Cartridge razors had not yet been introduced and any safety razor I tried tore up my face.
Back then the Norelco shavers had only two heads,; but I upgraded to triple heads when the became available. Over the years, I tried foil shavers and reciprocating head shavers, but for my beard and skin, the Norelco always won.

When traveling in my job, I always kept a Norelco in my suitcase, but after acne was no longer an issue, I started using cartridge razors. I was never satisfied with the quality of shave I got with either the electric or cartridges. I now use a combination of straight razors, DE and SE safety razor for most of my shaving. However, for Valentine's Day, I got a Phillips Norelco 9000 Prestige, which is their flagship razor. I primary reserve it for quick touchups as I much prefer traditional wet shaving. Even with the most advanced features currently available, an electric shaver cannot match the performance of a good traditional shave.

I looked on eBay and they were all selling complete used razors just like dad’s and probably with worn/broken screens just like dad’s. I was hoping to find a source for either new or NOS screens but I don’t that exists. It’s funny, dad says it the best razor he ever had but I don’t recall him ever using it. I gave him a nice self cleaning 7 series Braun a couple of years ago but somehow it’s not as good as what he remembers the Schick to be. I think it’s the lure if what we don’t have.

Now that I look at it, yes it does. You’re a genius.

The Braun Series 3 3040s is my daily shaver.

I have never purchased top-of-the-line electric shavers, I just don't think they are worth the money. But I also don't buy the cheapest ones, because of the poor quality of which they are made.

But this middle prices shaver does its job wonderfully, and in the 7 months since I've had it, it hasn't had any technical problems. It shaves smoothly like in the first day.
And it is perfect for my sensitive skin, it shaves without irritating it.

For a detailed review of this shaver, read the article about the best electric shavers under $100.
