So I was daydreaming the other day... About what a "dream dopp kit" might look like, specialized of course - for shaving.

I was thinking it would need to accommodate for:

- A double-edged razor or straight razor
- A regular sized shaving brush
- A five-pack of blades
- A 100ml bottle of aftershave
- A 113g tub of soap and/or tube of cream
- …and of course all the other typical “men’s stuff”

This way you wouldn't have to resort to travel brushes per say, can carry your favorite software combo, etc.

I mean, I "make do" with that sort of set up now, but like I said... I was daydreaming. Smile

What would YOU imagine it would look like, pie-in-the-sky?

My "Dream Dopp" would have a U-shaped plastic area to cradle and protect the brush, with an elastic retainer for the handle to keep it in place. It would also have a padded and secure place to hold a straight razor, again with an elastic retainer. And it would have a strap of horsehide that is attached to the bag, but can be folded out for stropping. Just a short piece of leather, maybe 6" long and 1.5" wide...barely big enough to make short X strokes and refine the edge before a shave. That piece of leather would have to have a protective "pouch" or something to keep it separate and safe inside the dopp kit, so excess soap/water/splash/whatever could not contact the leather and cause issues...

Very straight razor oriented but some great ideas. Love it.

I was thinking of a way to travel with a brush as well; something rigid enough to protect the knot, but also breathable so you wouldn't bug out if it was still a little damp.

For my travel kit I use a larger prescription bottle with some holes drilled in it to protect the brush which is usually a Whipped Dog silvertip that has been retired as my travel brush.

I use a smaller prescription bottle to hold the razor handle and head that's wrapped in a paper towel, though one of those leather razor cases would be a nice addition.  For the razor I often bring an ATT with M and R plates.  I choose the ATT because it's easily replaceable unlike the BBS-1 or Mongoose that I choose over it most days.    I haven't lost one yet as it's always in my carry on luggage. I usually bring Feather blades either in my carry on if I'm driving or in checked luggage if flying.

For the soap I have about six or eight different one ounce screw top containers filled with my favorites as well as a dollar store plastic salsa bowl.  The variety of soaps helps me deal with the water conditions of where I travel to as some soaps definitely lather better in different water.  By doing it this way I also have some variety to mix it up daily and not be stuck with just the one soap.  I usually bring MdC in original and Fougere, Le Pere Lucien (because the stuff lathers great in any water), PannaCrema Nuavia, WSP, and a couple Strop Shoppe samples.  These soaps seem to all do well in hard water.

Aftershaves are usually balms (Nancy Boy and Neutrogena Post Shave Lotion) stored in 4oz flip top Igo travel containers that I picked up at the local Walmart.  I usually bring two different ones.

Colognes go into small refillable spray bottles and I bring two to three of them that match well with the soaps and aftershaves.
