I just discovered that a few of my friends and I are all interested in lightboxes.  We were admiring some fine SOTD photos at the time, and at least for me, my main interests are in quickly and easily getting good photos of SOTD ensembles and also of individual razor and brush size items.  Owner reviews suggest that ease of use, lumens, dimming, color temperature, size, build quality, and durability are all factors to consider.  However, it is still hard to know how important different features are, what's worth paying for, and whose products are either well liked or to be avoided.

So, for those of you who use a lightbox, would you please tell us what you've got, what you like about it, and what you wish was better?

Thanks in advance.

I built one out of 3/4" PVC. It's roughly 14" x 14" x 14" and I use a white, shimmery, parachute-pant-like fabric I picked up at Joann for light diffusion. I use it on the top and sides and use a vinyl "faux wood" backdrop for most of my pictures these days. I use 3 lights for it, all the aluminum clamp lights you can get at any box store with huge LEDs in them. I believe the temp on them is 5000K ("daylight") although I wish I could find 6500K ones locally - I can't recall how many watt these are. I would post a picture of the set up, but it's all packed up for moving right now.

It has worked great for me, the only thing I seem to struggle with is getting 'enough' light, even though I feel like I have a ton of it. Maybe just need to open exposure more or something on my camera. Pictures still come out kinda dim sometimes. I guess if I had to find another con with it, it would be that it's a little bulky.

Thanks for your reply Viking.  With hindsight, I see that I should have posted this in the Photography sub-forum.  I will post it again over there, and try to close this thread.

BTW good luck with the move.

Can a moderator move the forum, so you preserve the posts?

I know there are a few... Can't name them, lol! I'm guessing (sorry if I'm wrong folks!): Marko , Freddy , DanLaw ... Ooh, and andrewjs18 who owns the forum .

Nevermind, new thread is there... Nothing to see here, move along. Lol.

Mike, you might want to consider closing or deleting this thread, then, so you don't get any more responses in here. Smile
