Tatara Muramasa Adjustable DE Passaround Review – Adjustability Without Bulk

I've heard at least one person describing the Muramasa as a bit draggy.

Has anyone else here had that experience?

I'm thinking about picking one up during the sales.

Have found it neck and neck with the best razors in the world RE shaving properties: classic duFours and H&S to my perspective. However, no razor ever encountered is as properly designed in accordance with engineering principles, not even close.

I don’t have a huge wealth of experience - but I second the opinions above. The Muramasa is mild yet efficient. I tend to leave it on 3 as a daily driver then up to 5 if I went a few days without shaving. The only competition I have yet to find is the konsul.

If you like higher than “average” blade feel it may not be for you. That being said, on 5 there is still some blade feel, it’s just not pronounced.

As an aside, I have found its bead blasted finish to be a rock solid grip. It doesn’t bite your fingers like a clean, deep knurling, but I have extreme confidence in it. I don’t think the dimples do anything - I think it’s simply a matter of the satin finish.

Tatara also does other nice things: there is a plastic sleeve inside the inkwell stand to keep the handle from getting scratched. I don’t have this in my two other inkwell stands.

Longevity wise - I know there is an o ring inside of the mechanism, and that it is a bit finicky (Tatara apparently sent out upgrades to earlier batches consisting of a new o ring). In many years I’m sure that will rot/crack and fail. It’s a standard size. Hopefully by then you will be able to Google its size on some random forums and order a replacement (if not directly from Tatara).

I love my muramasa. It and the konsul are turning into my rotation.

I definitely prefer milder razors (RR BBS, Rockwell#3, Henson Mild, etc), so that's not a convern.

My response was intended to convey there is zero drag as compared to any other natural finish in the top competitors, polished or satin finished

The Konsul is another contender for me. How do they differ in overall feel/shave?
What is the equivalent setting on #1 on the Konsul as far as agressivness, on the Muramasa?

Konsul gets the edge for me at the moment. It’s just an incredibly smooth shave, especially on my neck which has hairs laying very close to the skin which many other razors miss unless I apply slightly more pressure or go for a lot of blade feel.
I think the konsul may have a slightly larger range (mildly more aggressive on 6 vs the muramasa on 5). I rarely go to 1 on either so couldn’t speak to that really, sorry.

Regarding dragginess, I do feel the muramasa requires slightly more pressure than the konsul. This may contribute to a dragging sensation, although nothing pronounced in my experience.
