I just bought the Tatara Masamune DE razor in matte steel with the closed comb in stainless steel.

I’m planing to buy the Tatara Masamune DE razor in black with the open comb in stainless steel next (and very soon)

I’ve heard I can also attach the open comb and closed comb from the Tatara Masamune Nodachi and get 2 new extra combinations - is this true and in case it is what do I need to buy to get this to work ?

Both the Nodachi top plate, the closed comb base plate and the open comb base plate or ?

Thanks for helping.

That is my understanding in terms of combining the Nodachi plates with the Masamune top cap. You can order those combinations directly from Tatara as well (if you were starting with no existing Tatara razor components) through their website's customize razor option

Absolutely it is true: with a range of Nodachi caps and based, one can cover a range of 4 different razor experiences per comb style

Thanks guys,

Just so that I don’t buy anything I don’t need.

If I own the Tatara Masamune DE closed comb razor and the Tatara Masamune DE open comb razor, I need to buy 3 extra plates (Nodachi Top plate, Nodachi open comb and Nodachi closed comb) to obtain the total of 4 combinations, right ?

I’m about to buy the black Tatara Masamune DE open comb, and before I pull the trigger I might consider buying the black Tatara Masamune Nodachi DE and then save what the Nodachi top plate would cost me, is that correct ?

So basically if I get the black Tatara Masamune Nodachi Open Comb DE razor now and I already own the Tatara Masamune Closed Comb DE razor, I only need to get the Tatara Masamune matte steel open comb plate and the Tatara Masamune Nodachi black closed comb plate to get all the combinations, right ?

Thanks for your help.

Yes. That

BUT you could just buy the Nodachi in dark with both plates and also have a long handle option.

It also would make it easier to keep parts identified.

I would think the cheapest way to go would be too buy a full nodachi and the 2 additional baseplates you need. That will give you both handles, both top caps,!and all 4 of the base plates.

To make it more simple, I just bought the Tatara Masamune Nodachi in matte Stainless steel with the open comb.
Will then soon order the Masamune OC (Open Comb) plate and the Masamune Nodachi SB (Closed Comb) plate, so that I got all 4 combinations.

Excited to try this Portuguese Samurai inspired razor out.

I’m not your average wet shaving razor user, who out of necessity began using DE razors.

I’m a Gillette cartridge razor fan & user, who out of boredom after many excellent shaves after the other with my Mach3/Fusion5 in 2011 simply chose to try different DE razors out as an alternative to cartridge razor shaves.

If you understand basic engineering, the Tatara line will leave a very positive impression. Surprisingly, the branding from product conception through development as they expand, is the most consistently developed in the industry.

Here are some passaround reviews that discuss the brand's distinct elements so you may focus on the concept and execution as you use the razors. The team has truly accomplished an extraordinary endeavour launching their vision to my perspective

I might at one stage buy the titanium top plate, the titanium OC base plate and the titanium SB base plate and mount it on one of my two stainless steel handles just to try how it shaves. Balance might be off due to the heavier stainless steel handle, but it should still work great.

Were it not so expensive to ship, would let you try the Nodachi Ti. It quite good, minimally vintage Wolfman standard. Have it for sale to pay for Coco's medical care but if it doesn't sell for a fair price am happy to keep it, it that good.
